I was just gonna post about this. Everything I've read online says we don't save any of that money regardless, but Jim O said otherwise. So if Dame suddenly signs for like MLE money it would wipe a large chunk of that off of our cap sheet? Because that would be a massive difference maker.

I believe the relevant part of the CBA is Article XXVII (RIGHT OF SET-OFF), Section 1 (Set-off Calculation). I've only read that section once at this point, but it sounds like it would be 50% of the amount his next team pays him over this year's 1 year of service minimum. So 0.5 * ($$$ - $2,048,494).

Rstuedes24 wrote:Also I've seen like a billion different things on this. If we were able to turn this into a sign and trade on Turner, some people were saying it would reenable us to use more $ to sign FAs? Another thing I saw mentioned if we spend X amount we would then gain access to the MLE?

Most likely not - that would only be the case if we sent out Kuzma in the sign-and-trade. You can look back for some of my previous posts for a more in-depth explanation.

Listened to the whole Simmons pod. Good lord does he have Bucks derangement syndrome. He’s trashing the Bucks while implying that the “Pacers got rid of” Turner. Then he goes into how bigs all decline at age 30. Finally tops it off wondering if Indy was playing 4-D chess by screwing the Bucks salary cap for five years.

Then his little employee buddy Rob Mahoney feels like kissing up to his boss, so he starts talking about how this now allows Indy to find a BETTER CENTER, who can do more things. Yeah. I’m sure prime Wemby will be available in two years.

If anyone else is interested in perusing the CBA (I assume that's a "hell no" for most people), it's available here: https://imgix.cosmicjs.com/25da5eb0-15eb-11ee-b5b3-fbd321202bdf-Final-2023-NBA-Collective-Bargaining-Agreement-6-28-23.pdf

Yup it’s possible… if he’s part of a package that sends Giannis to Toronto.

Yup Giannis to Toronto is possible...if both teams flop this season and the Raptors land Dybantsa in the draft.

I actually like Mahoney generally speaking but it is funny just how lame the majority of the Ringer staff is when they're around Bill. That dork Michael Pina is the worst, it's like he's literally paid to rip on the Bucks and climax over anything and everything Celtics related. This is why Russillo is so good, he's like the only guy who will call Bill out when he's going full brain dead.

I am aware of Turner’s limitations. But da—. He’s going to be a monster with Giannis and Bobby.

Is that even a thing? I thought the stretch is what it is regardless of what another team signs him for.

It's a thing on all non-buyout waivers and some buyouts.

This is really interesting. Am I overthinking it to think that the only way it would matter to Dame is if he gets more than what the Bucks owe him? For instance, if he signed for 2/100 would the Bucks be off the hook or am I misunderstanding?

Edit: I should have kept reading. You guys went over this. My bad.

Is there a path to using Kuzma to get Grimes in a S&T deal?

How the hell did Joe Dumars and John Hammond put together those 2000-2006 Piston’s teams.

They sure did whiff in the best draft ever though.

This is why I hope Russilo doesn’t leave the Ringer. Someone has to call out Bill’s nonsense.

By the way, I’ve heard none of these media people applaud the fact Horst retained Bobby, KPJ and GTJ on an annual combined salary close to one season of what the Piston’s will pay Duncan Robinson. That was pure magic he pulled off there.

If Simmons read the Pacers board, he’d think none of them know how to play chess. They are totally bummed and hopeless.

Bill's whole thing of "just trade Giannis in that scenario" is so fake after he just watched his team gut their championship core (after a devastating injury to their "best" guy) but you don't hear him calling to just ship out the rest of em and start fresh.

The Pacers are the NBA analog to the Brewers. They just had their 1982 World Series moment and blew it and aren’t going back.

And their cheap ass owner decided to lowball Paul Molitor, er Myles Turner and he’s headed off to a rival,

Honestly feel sorry for them, as all the work they do each year always comes with a hard payroll ceiling to it.

Wouldn't a team just pay him the minimum and we'd have to pay the rest? Why would another team pay more so we could pay less?

I'm not sure how that all works.

A team would pay more if there was competition for his services.
