Example, lets say you have a CHEF who is your ONLY CHEF and he cooks a meal on a day when others called out and the critics said the food was GOOD ENOUGH TO PASS. That CHEF is a SAVIOR for THAT situation.

Now lets say the NEXT YEAR you get TOP NOTCH OR BETTER CHEFS who are better and keep that PARTICUAL CHEF on board it doesn't NEGATE what the CHEF did the FIRST time around...

Even tho his food is NASTY the 2nd time around...

You don't say that chef is USELESS you say that chef is no longer NEEDED of is no longer USEFUL. Thats why I am always one who gives credit for a person when they do GOOD and BAD. Many just point out the BAD *not saying you are one* only.

I guess we have different memories of that Summer League. i'm glad that PJ entertained you so thoroughly that year.
I was indeed entertained by him, probably for different reasons. I distinctly remember his tunnel vision and shot selection was so bad it was almost comical. But that team somehow did go on a run toward the end of the tournament. kudos.
I definitely was more disappointed with vonleh seeing him play for the first time for us. Having spent the 9th pick on him it was a bit of an eye opener just how raw he was. Dude absolutely could not finish inside to save his life. But he was a good rebounder. and that was the only part of his game that ever translated during his NBA career.

I can agree there. Cause entertaining, and comical is often a great recipe in success or near that...

This got me thinking. Our Summer league teams have been so comically bad for so long. The last time we had a first or second team all summer league player was in 2013

jeff taylor and cody zeller both made it. team went 4-2, lost in semis. neither taylor or zeller played in that game.
team also had mkg, biz, troy daniels

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/summer/1/NBA-Summer-League/26/stats/Charlotte-Hornets/3

2012
kemba was 1st team

orlando summer league didnt do all tourney teams until 2012, but ammo and sean may would have made 1st team in 2006 if they had it

Great picks. Weird thing is I don't remember ANY of those teams for some reason. And I don't smoke or drink and LOVE summer league. Only one I remember most is PJ's... I do remember Tyshon Alexander and McDaniels a bit but PJ's the MOST. That was such a fun ride for me. I even had my Uncle watching that team

Thanks again for the memories PJ at least for me.

I guess in some ways PJ is the one you show up with you don't want to be with but does great and the others you want to be with just put on a show but nothing of substance accompanied it

PEOPLE WILL NEVER LET YOU FORGET HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL

Funny thing is the WILDNESS and RANDOMNESS of PJ's play imo is what made it so special for me. It was like a true UNDERDOG story. Better than some great dude who had promise. It seemed as if that moment was meant to be LEFT THERE.

I once said

BULLS 6 CHAMPIONSHIPS = 6 CHAMPIONSHIPS (YA'LL CAN HAVE EM ALLLL LOL)

JOHN STARKS DUNK IN THE Game 2 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals = PRICELESS.

I STAYED UP AT 2:00 AM JUST TO WATCH THE FULL GAME TO SEE IT AGAIN

You can take the MICHAEL JORDAN UNC final game winning Jordan and I will take the John Starks bag packer anyday. Thanks again John Starks.

I’m one of them unfortunately and look forward to it

I remember Bouknight and Kai being ass in their second and third summer league seasons.

I'd bet it's actually a good guage as to whether second and third year players have a shot at a meaningful NBA role.

Rookies of course give them the benefit of the doubt/grain of salt but if you suck in summer league after a year or two in NBA systems you probably aren't going to make it.

I think I could make a nice lil movie about that team. I could make PJ this star who went to UNC but who was considered a guy who was overrated. He gets depressed and Then he lands on the summer league team and redeems himself. Then after the summer league I could show credits and say he went on to do such and such.

I could act as if the BOBCATS were awful and we were going back to the HORNETS and we needed a team. In finding that team we had a list of WHOS WHO. And I could talk about how BAD the regular season was but put emphisis on the SUMMER LEAGUE as if it meant so much to a small town.

The movie could be called BOBCAT the PJ HAIRSTON story.

Hey guys, the weirdest thing happened when I fell asleep. I had a dream DENZEL WASHINGTON was in my apartment. I heard a voice and recognized it was him. My Mom and Sis ran to hug him. Weird af.

To draw an ending to the PJ Movie I could make the movie about a small group of friends who chat with PJ via the INTERNET only whom he's never met. It's like the chat forum can be his LIFELINE of sorts.

And they keep him motivated but the end scene his chat buddies lose POWER at halftime of the championship game and they run down to catch the end of the game since the arena is so close. PJ knows this and loses confidence.

They sneak in the back door and as they get in the arena PJ is going up for a shot but the shot MISSES. Then you see the crowd MAGICALLY DISAPEAR and silence falls in the arena. PJ is halfcourt and all that are around him are the guys who has been communicating with him online. His small group of fans.

I put a ball in his hand and he magically awakens. and it goes back to his friends being on their computers as if the power never went out and it was just a vision of his.

Last thing promise, lol but I can give PJ a love interest. A girl who works in a coffee shop and she agrees to go on a date with PJ. Their date consist of going to a summer league game together. There they see the player who is already an NBA player who is playing summer league after winning ROY the year prior and the summer league chip. PJ loses confidence and the girl has to motivate him as well as his small online chat group.

Of course these are all just thoughts nothing is final but who knows maybe a movie can happen one day. I don't know him personally but I will maybe try to reach out to PJ and ask him if he would be interested in making a movie about himself. But not sure I will yet. I have so much going on right now.

I feel like this list needs a second honorable mention of one game wonders. The dudes who showed up to Summer League played one game dominated and either got injured or didn't play again.

Mkg 2013
Monk 2018
B Miller 2024

Fats goes full on hornets summer league archive historian

- realgm has historical stats for all 4 summer leagues (vegas, utah, california, orlando) going back to 2004. but they are separate. i cant find anywhere that it's combined across the different leagues. so... i kinda went down a rabbit hole
- i combined all 4 leagues for hornets/bobcats, combined dubplicates (ex: miller played in california and vegas, so combine his 2 rows into 1 and adding together stats)
- totals, with averages for points, rebounds, assists
- re-did averages for ppg, rpg, apg, spg, bpg, tpg, ft%, fg%, 3p%

I'm glad we signed PJ HALL to our summer league. I think if given minutes he will impress. He spent last year in DENVER nuff said. He has upside. He will be my favorite HORNET this summer league

It's like the way we draft is diabolical. We have no method to it. If I were GM AS RANDOM AND REACHABLE AS I AM you can still kinda predict my picks. I have nooooooooooooooo idea who we're gonna pick cause the type of players we like are rarely produced and we add EXTRA PICKS as if there are gonna be EXTRA of THESE players on the board lol

PJ HALL. looked so good in summer league last year. I think he can be our backup center. He played behind joker and MPJ so tough to get minutes. I think he makes the team if he plays.

3- McNeely- Sion- Rodman
4- Salaun- Sims-
5- Kalkbrenner- Hall - Oduro - Banks
