According to spotract, we still have over 14m in cap. Ideally, that would be used for another edge and RB, but at the very least, it looks like the team is comfortable with the RB group already on the roster. But, you can never have enough pass rushers and there are still a handful of pretty decent guys who won't make more than five million. I wonder if Poles is holding on to the cap space for a potential deadline trade

Or, I guess, they could holding on to some cap space just in case there's an injury this summer. Which would also make sense

If they're waiting on the edge, I don't really get it. I hate that Khalil went off the board, and the longer we wait, the more impactful guys are gonna go off the board.

I don't understand how Asante Samuel Jr. is still available. He's only 25 years old, gonna be a decades long Pro Bowler at the corner position, and while he would be a total luxury signing, that move would pay major dividends for our underrated secondary.

True, Dice. There can be no denying that Asante has those concerns, brother. I'm still hoping we at least make a half decent offer to sign the kid.

Slow Bears news lately so, have been watching these 1-2 year old breakdowns of Ben Johnson’s offense. Man is it exciting to think we have a coach that could actually be better than the guys across the field from him. I keep picturing DJ the Amon role, and Rome taking some of the Jameson Williams plays. We for sure don’t have a Gibbs, man is he quick through the hole.

I expect the Bears to have a top 8 running game under Ben. Great running game, leads to great play action, which leads to great QB play.

Word is Trapilo is much further along than expected and could easily end up supplanting Braxton Jones. If we have two high quality OTs, that will go a long way to consistently strong protect for Caleb. Combine that with Ben's hopefully big impact in getting Caleb to make quick accurate reads and just get outta harm's way, and this offense is just gonna wear teams down. We are LOADED at almost every other position except pass rusher. We might have one of the most underrated rosters ever on our hands!

"With the Bears, Poles mentioned that Trapilo gives the team an option at either position but during OTAs and minicamp, he was rotating in on the left side.
From what we heard from head coach Ben Johnson and his fellow teammates, Trapilo is an incredibly smart player who has been impressing everyone by picking up the offense at a fast rate.

"He’s exactly who we thought he was going to be—super smart," Johnson said. "He takes those concepts in the meeting straight to the field and applies them immediately."

I know he’s been looking good in shorts, but I’m holding off on expecting too much on him tbh. 6’8 athletic OT that had good knee bend and agility. Boring tape. That describes a mid first rounder. First rounder minimum. He’s sliding down through the second round just sitting there for the Bears. WTF. Stranger things have happened, but I need to know what the problem was for scouts before getting my hopes up. Shorter arms shouldn’t fully explain what that was. Everyone in that draft had short arms.

Anyway, given my questions, and the inherent difficulty to play LT as a rookie, it leads me to think that if healthy, Braxton Jones would be the starter. It’s less risky, and pumps up his value if he’s able to show a little more. The only reason Trapilo has a shot is that Jones will be watching while Trapilo is playing, and new coaching staff has no connection to Jones yet.

Looks like we can address the EDGE position in next year's Draft. A bunch of EDGE Monsters will be available:https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/early_2026_look_reveals_why_ryan_poles_avoided_one_need_last_draft/s1_16634_42408407

Yeah I can't wait for training camp and some reports on progress. I hope Caleb and the first unit gets plenty of playing time in preseason- they will need it to get up to speed against real opponents.

I'm anxious to see how that 7th round RB, Monongai, looks. Also Ian Wheeler looked good last year in preseason before he got hurt. Maybe he'll find a place on the team this year.
