We can all look forward to a coach who has learned the lesson a wise man posted on this board:
"If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right...you are a fan of your opinion not the team."
Brown will adapt to the players and what works. I don't think that was true before. I'm really rooting for him and the team to succeed.
I appreciate the kind words...![]()
I didn't get to make the choice and while he may not be my choice or the most exciting choice out there his track record suggests he will at least be competent enough to compare to what Thibs was doing.
His track record suggests he's adaptable enough to use the players to their potential and abilities. It also suggests he accepts input from others to produce some of the most effective schemes and game plans to use the talent.
The bar is set so high that there's only one outcome that constitutes success for him and that's finals with a title changing his legacy as a coach and cementing him as a legend in NY. Just getting conference finals is a 'failure' in the eyes of observers and possibly even in the franchise.
They didn't ask my input or opinion when making the choice so all I can do is want the Knicks to accomplish what we've all be waiting for. He definitely isn't an inspiring hire in my perception but neither was Thibs, either, yet here we are.
I admire the hell out of Rick Carlisle for how he had Indiana playing this year. Next year, they're down 2 starters and won't likely do as well, but Carlisle may still do an amazing job. The point is, we need to see our team playing well, and avoiding the intense frustrations of the past few years. Winning is of course the goal, but it's not the only way to evaluate the coach. Even Kerr doesn't win without a great roster, but he's still a great coach. So we need to be realistic but I do hope that, if we're all healthy and able to pay, we are in the finals this sesaon destroying those puny Western Conference losers!
