yeah, this might be a good hire but I'm a bit surprised that this has gotten to 4 pages

Still, I like the hire even just for Suggs and AB.

We needed the personnel before anything. Most teams run similar stuff. Now we have the personnel to actually work some new wrinkles in our offense besides going to what our two players are best at which is iso.

No.... The most important players I think he's here for are Paolo and franz.... And then the rest of the team as well.

Yes... Known for being a dribbling expert and player development etc..... but was also a coach for on court on the fly decision making. That to me is what will help change the identity of the team the most. #readandreact

There was 2 years of overlap between him and Coach Mose.... And this was the guy that Mosely has targeted to help with the known issues ... And giving him a larger role. To me that says a lot.

Yeah. We might not have signed an offensive coach but we'll find out this season whether the players were holding back the coach last season or vice versa. I'm confident of a nice uptick in offense. The question is just by how much....

Some Mavs fans give Shammgod a ton of credit for developing Dorian Finney-Smith into a good shooter for whatever that's worth.

Yea I saw that too and was trying to find stuff out about that. There are videos of him working with Luka on shooting drills. I think we envision him as an all around offensive coach. Time will tell but this looks to be an extremely interesting assistant coach hire.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Spent time around Luka, Brunson, Kyrie, etc. Can't hurt to see how he can help some of our guys here. But also coaches aren't magicians lol. Ultimately player talent will trump anything no matter what coaches they have.

Absolutely and he is coming here to be a member of the staff and not a player development coach. I think his responsibility will cover a lot of the offense. The offensive play last couple years has been extremely bland and not creative at all. Everyone here has had that concern. Heck it’s my only concern about Mosley. I think with how aggressive we went after him he will be a huge part of the plan to change the offense. Mosley obviously trusts him so hopefully delegating some of that responsibility will be just what the doctor ordered.

It coulda been better for sure. all about bringing in new assistants since we lost Tibbetts too. But also working with zero shooting and Cory Joseph as your best "pure" PG and your star players can't shoot the three ball consistently yet.. you can eke out some better offense but I don't see anything crazy we could've unlocked. Expecting a lot more out of our offense this year!

Mavs reddit commentary.

[Shams Charania]Dallas Mavericks player development coach God Shammgod has agreed to join the Orlando Magic as an assistant coach, Andy Miller of Klutch Sports tells ESPN. Shammgod has worked for the Mavericks since 2019 and now receives a larger role in Orlando.

Agreed. The offense struggled, but it was largely by design. The front office prioritized defense-first prospects and handed high-usage roles to young players still learning efficiency. Add in injuries to Paolo, Franz, and Suggs, and there was little continuity or shooting to work with.

It made sense for where they were. With Bane, a healthy core, and new offensive staff, we should finally see real progress.

Wow the Magic signed someone that can actually help run the offense and not just rely on random nobodies.
Good thing they did this now and not 3 years ago when we started developing our core players.

Better late than never.
