No. Why would it be? The deadline is months away.

Things go well, he opts out and either resigns with a bigger deal or leaves in an offseason where a lot more teams have cap to spend.

I think we do not fill 15th roster spot, we sign one two way player and we roll the dice. Depending how the season goes, injuries and what not, moves can be made. Dumping Jett will always be there, trading goga is more reasonable once moe is back and healthy, etc.

It may be what happens but I hope not.

I want a multi year deal starting at 7.5 per.

Goga and or JI can be moved next offseason.

Franz signed his July 5, so should be around now that he signs it. :o

Although Suggs signed his in October.

The NBA doesn’t actually allow guys to be traded, bought out, and then immediately resign with the team that traded them.

It used to be allowed, but it is no longer.

Because Jabari got paid as soon as he was able to. My thought is delay is due to Paolo trying to have the 5th year be a player option instead full 5 year deal. We know he is getting a max deal, so the hold up to me seems a bit strange unless the player option is what he is negotiating.

There has to be a duration restriction. It’s not a forever thing or an entire season even?

I thought it was odd that he wasn't on the summer league team.

Does that open any additional cap space? Probably minuscule.

Weltman should've waited for a holiday to withdraw the offer. Like when he traded KCP on Father's Day. He'll probably waive Jett tomorrow night at dusk.

What signals are you seeing that suggest the front office is placing significant weight on avoiding the luxury tax? Curious what specifically led you to that conclusion.

They’re far enough under the first apron hard cap to have already offered Moe to a very competitive salary that I believe he would take.

The fact that hasn’t happened yet makes me think it’s because they prefer to figure out the rest of the luxury tax situation first rather than have to punt a contract during the season.

My understanding is that they are currently about $7.9 million below the first apron. The key questions, then, are: how much buffer would you hold for in-season flexibility, and how much would you allocate to the 15th roster spot? That directly determines what they can reasonably offer Moritz.

What would you consider a competitive salary in that context?

I wouldn't care about going into the season with only 14 players and give him the full amount. BUT.... obviously there is a lot of risk in that..... and that depends on how they view our "depth" and if the think that one player can be made into 2 players at the deadline. Dicey... but an option.

According to Phil, there was also a death in the Banchero family (an aunt) ... so that could play a part.

I hope it was his decision to go try to find a home where they'll give him a shot.

Someone said his aunt died. He may also want to be out of the NBA mindset just a little bit longer, work on his own in his Seattle across the entire country away. I don’t think it’s strange to not sign an extension yet with the deadline months away and it’s on a QRFA anyways too. Finally, he’s a superstar and we should show some level of respect, it’s not 100% when we want to do it the same that isn’t the other way around. Orlando would not push him away from a final year PO or anything similar either, imho.

There are a lot of gaps in rosters’ 5/4 spot, and wishlists for them. I personally think Weltman is slowing down to read those opportunities. Maybe get a good trade for Goga (with a good Vet Min backup lined up) instead of stretch-cutting Jett like I mentioned here first. Maybe get bold and do an upgrade of WCJ if the other team is not really in the deep playoffs hunt.
Might end up mostly to get Mo either a 1+1 year deal to pay him better later. Or get Mo a longer, 14+ mil deal that descends downwards like Suggs deal. If WCJ is your average 5/4 and Mo is a 6MOTY candidate 5/4 who might threaten closing minutes, you’re in a decent spot (considering the rest of the starters).
Then it’s evaluation up until the trade deadline or when some other team is pushing the date of the deal more (because of their circumstances). It might be quiet from ORL though. Our team cooks as it is.

He did great last summer league and did great... Just the season didn't go well. But.... I don't think it's just up to him only. They might also want to see as much of the other individuals as possible as well. We have 3 high priority players in Tristan, Jase, and Noah.... And players that they need to evaluate for other opening ( 2 way etc.)

We'll see. FO and coaching staff would be working hand in hand on decisions.

cmon, its SL. you think the front office wants to see more of Marcio Santos or Dakota Leffew? we have to pay him this year either way. And Tristan, Jase and Noah arent in his way to play.

They declined Mac so they want to see Moore as a starting guard in SL. He will replace Mcclung in Osceola and get a two-way probably. Jase-Moore-TDS-Penda-Center thats it. No need for Jett in SL.
