Brown is certainly disappointing, but I’ll give him a chance and see how much he’s learned from his previous failures. Thibs was a very different coach for us than he was for Minnesota or Chicago, so hopefully Brown levels up with us as well.

Brunson: So what are you paid to do?

it's a tepid hire and probably eighth on nyk's list

brown is like a high school level teacher

he's not college level and he's not professional school level

he's just really beloved in the nba hierarchy of coaches

As an assistant coach, yes. I know.
Also, so did Thibs at Boston years back.

I used to be very impressed with Mike Brown's accomplishments when he coached Lebron in Cleveland and got confused when he struggled and just lasted one year there when he came back there. Obviously no more Lebron but why was the team so bad? :o
Then I noticed one difference... No more Michael Malone
Did pretty well in LA with Quin Snyder assisting him though....
Then did really good again in Sacramento with Jordi Fernandez assisting him winning 48 games in 22-23.
Did ok still the following year but poof, Brooklyn hired Fernandez last season and Brown now is out of the job....
The great Phil Jackson relied on Tex Winter's triangle offense.
Doc Rivers looked so good in Boston with Thib's assisting him.....
New York better get the best available assistants for Brown .

Mike Brown will only be as good as his assistant coaches. As good as the Knicks could look on offense this past season, they became too predictable against teams who had depth to wear Brunson down. It was the same issue that Thibs had in Chicago, when Rose was healthy and playing.

why didnt nyk go after malone or jenkins

or maybe they did and got turned down?

i got a feeling the brown hire is because the color brown is a wishy washy middle tone color that doesnt lean in any direction.

the owner, dolan, can infuse any color he wants and change brown, in fact brown is more like tan or khaki. hmmmm, mike is a beige coach

The positive angle of that list is that "works well with others" is one of Brown's assets. That attribute seems to be very high on what NYK was looking for.

It's certainly a contrast from Thibs.

Jenkins was the runner up in this search.

They explicitly didn't go after Malone because they wanted a different personality type than Thibs.

I was surprised they didn't seem to pursue Bud at all and frustrated that they didn't take a harder look at first timers.

Eh, I get the impression that everyone in the Knicks front office was fed up with him to differing degrees.

well hopefully for them they can re establish that system of hiring smart assistants.
Riley had Harter and Van Gundy
JVG had Thibs….
If would make sense for Mike to demand to hire guys who will help create smart schemes to put this team in the best chance to succeed.

no salary cap on coaches, why not hire (actually my preference)Jenskins as assistant?
