If he wants out, I'm making him give up all of it. At least then, you were able to dump Saric for free.

I'm guessing the Kings would have liked to know this before they made the trade.

Any interest in Nurkic?

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

It would be quite a bit higher salary in EuroLeague than that NBA contract. So he would actually be taking less money to stay in the NBA.

This is really unfortunate because he was the best of their off-season moves. Of all of their moves, he was the the real difference maker. If for no other reason than being able to rest Jokic for stretches.

Most importantly he'd also been in a much more favourable role as the starting center over there. In the article, that team is pretty stacked with guys who have had stints in the NBA: Jerian Grant, Lorenzo Brown, Kendrick Nunn, Cedi Osman, Juancho Hernangomez and Omer Yurtseven

He's not taking less money, salaries in Europe are after taxes, 4M Euro net is close or more than what he'd make in DEN.
Also, it's not not crazt to take leas and live where you want.

And not just after taxes, but completely net. So the reported salary is after taxes, agent fees, insurance, retirement, everything.

He'd also play a lot more in EuroLeague. He seems like the kind of guy who wants to play.

I think they are cutting Lorenzo Brown and Omer Yurtseven, because of poor performance.

I don’t think the trade is final. The Kings will rescind the trade for sure

Confirmed by Marc Stein. Sounds like 'Ciunas wants to play in Europe but no final decision has been made. Nuggets will need to convince him to stay.

He still has a guaranteed deal. Maybe they're trying to sign him in advance? Because yeah, JV is still under contract.

Wouldn't that be considered tampering? If he is still under contract, then maybe he's discussing a buy-out, because the Nuggets would have to release him first.

Yeah. We're going to need more information. Denver still has to agree with this, and it feels weird that they'd pull the trigger on a trade and JV wouldn't have said anything beforehand about trying to get signed overseas.

I found a previous situation regarding overseas contract offers, with Sasha Vezenkov. This guy breaks it down, he either has to discuss a buy-out or waived, which he eventually was by the Toronto Raptors.

So, what exactly are Sasha Vezenkov’s options here?

Work a straight waiver with the Toronto Raptors, upon which Toronto would eat $6.6 million in dead money on their cap sheet. If Vezenkov clears waivers, he could then be a free agent. If he was claimed off waivers, his contract would move in full to the new NBA team.

Work a buyout with the Toronto Raptors. In this scenario, Vezenkov would give back some or all of his $6.6 million contract for the 2024-25 season to become a free agent. He would still need to clear waivers upon a buyout, as listed above.

Everyone else faced with far less tenacity.

Same thing that's happening to Caitlin Clark.

Nice find!

So yeah, Denver has to allow this to happen... after having given up assets to get him.

It definitely matters. Nuggets fall off a cliff every time Joker sits in large part because they don't have a serviceable backup Center. Getting Valanciunas would've been huge for them, as will be losing him if he heads overseas.

Ah, that changes things. I thought this was official already.

So Denver has an out if they can't convince JV.
