Vogel wasn't exactly "done dirty" by Phoenix. He was overrated and a poor fit in general. Didn't help that the players turned on him and quickly, but some things just aren't a good situation. Durant sure didn't help smooth things over and be a good veteran presence.

If he can manage to contribute in a meaningful way for DAL, good for both him and the team.

He was definitely done dirty. He was hired on to help Ayton take that next step and shortly after being hired, they traded him for Jusuf frikken Nurkic. He still somehow miraculously coached that team to 9th in ORTg and a surprising 13th in DRTG despite losing his perimeter defenders and anchor down low with that awkward fit with Beal on board.

I think this is an amazing pickup for Dallas. He has familiarity with coaching AD to a chip and has always gotten the most out of his high upside big men. He still getting paid by Phoenix, so the potential of him stealing JKidd's job I think is minimized with the two having a pretty good relationship as well.

Guess we're going to have an "agree to disagree" moment on this one.

You think in the next seven years Dallas or Houston wins a minimum of 5 rings? I’ll take that bet anyday.

Yep and I'm especially confident about Houston winning 3-5 rings, i think they'll be a dynasty.
I don't think Dallas will be a dynasty at all, but they'll have the most chance of winning non-Houston rings.
Minnesota have less chance but they'll always be in contention and will replace Dallas at #2 when Kyrie or AD are injured.

Well if I knew you personally I would take that bet any day for any reasonable amount.

We still have OKC intact and they have picks out the wazoo for years to come. Spurs have the alien Wemby. The league has parity like never before. LeBron could be off the Lakers in a year or two and they could surround Luka with god knows who. The Bucks could retool. Joker is still the best player in the league. Hali and Tatum will be back in a year. Golden State could land another player to make themselves better. Houston could have injuries. Orlando and Detroit are on the rise. Atlanta is making moves to improve. Hell in 5 years a horrible team like the Jazz may have landed a couple top 5 picks and look like the current OKC team.

I mean the list goes on and on why the odds are not in your favor. But I like a bold take so good on you for that. Curious….is Houston your team?

I don't trust Wemby's body at all, and the Spurs are a non-factor without him, so the Spurs are a non-factor in my book.
And i definitely don't trust Doncic's body/mind, plus he only made the Finals with Dallas because they had the best defensive roster in the NBA.
The Bucks aren't a desirable destination, so its too far-fetched for them to retool enough to win a championship (but they could win a championship in the past, when the field was weaker).
Golden State are too old and fragile... and Houston have easily the best coach in the NBA, and the most athleticism in the NBA, and now they have KD to complete their masterpiece!
No, Houston is not my team, but they are about to be America's team for a long, long, long time :usa:

Well congrats to joining the Rockets bandwagon. Always been a loose fan of them as well. Seems like the Texas teams have always been easy to root for and do things the right way. Well…..except trading Luka. Think your take is wild but who knows.

As a Mavs fan, I think the Mavs is still experimenting lineup and has yet to be a top tier teams in the West. It all depends on how comfortable Flagg and others are playing out of natural position. I am still waiting on a Lively complete breakout season as well as a Flagg success at PG position. Not be mention, you've got to get Kyrie back to pre-injury shape. And I won't count out OKC. And DEN and perhaps SAS are in mix on top.

Unless Lebron has been brought out and joins the Mavs for minimum, I don't think the Mavs is on top of OKC, DEN and HOU. I think the Mavs is better than MIN, MEM, SAC, NOP, maybe SAS and LAL as well at this point.

Pacers needs to rehire Vogel once Carlisle retires, moves up to the FO.

Vogel is a good coach. Suns and Lakers were silly to fire him. Magic, too.

Apparently not...
bonita_the_frog wrote:Denver lacks depth so they are too reliant on being 100% healthy at all times, but i wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota win a championship. Dallas are injury-prone so there will be years where Minnesota and Houston finish on top. Houston will win most of the championships...

Next 7 years:
Houston 3-5 rings
Dallas 1-2 rings
Minnesota 0-1 ring

Im really lukewarm on the Russell signing. Ive never been a fan of that guy. Hopefully Cooper and Davis can lead us until Irving returns and we have a chance at a top 4 or 5 seed. I really like Gafford, Washington, Marshal, and Lively. I dont see big things from Klay, Martin, and Hardy. I think we are a mixed bag without Irving.

I think you're right. I couldn't even find an example without the championship, although I'm sure there are multiple. There are some examples with former head coaches being assistants under their former players, like D'Antoni under Nash in Brooklyn.
