Last year Celtics were 12-4 when Queta played more than 20 minutes and 5-1 when he started. He turns 26 in week. I am excited for him to get some more PT and show out.

I also thought the starters liked when he was on the floor.

I noticed it the few times during the 23/24 season and really thought it would translate to this season.

Luke got the burn this season, but I thought Neems should have been given a little more chances.

My basketball goggles didn't tell me he was way off like some others saw. Walsh was way off, not Neems. Bigs it takes reps.

They basically auditioned Luke for his contract with any team but the C's got nothing out of it in the end.

I think Neems is a 20mpg player who can get a double double each night.

Not sure what happened there, Gant--but thanks. I'll take the Bam comparison and overlook for now the slow feet on D.

Luke of course led the team this year in on and on/off +/-, but Neemi wasn't bad there either, coming in 4th and 5th there respectively.

Yup. This is a big opportunity for him for sure. I think he (should) realize how big this season could be for his career. If he stays healthy I can see this being the best year of his career. 3rd year in our system too, so things could really start to click. Plus confidence could go up with more consistent playing time.

He has the absolute best contract in the NBA. A 7-footer who can play is earning the minimum.

Now they just need Joe to play him.

* Mazzulla said last year Queta would be playing for any other team. Queta's going to get all the floor time he can handle this season.

* Without every single one of their best rebounders from last year, the Celtics roster in this incomplete moment looks weak in that category. Queta is going to need to be very energetic on the boards.

* For an informative Neemias Queta/Amari Williams comparison, take a peek at this video a little after the 22 minute mark. There, Eurohoops scout Antonio Dias, also from Portugal, points out that Williams and Queta are fairly similar and goes into some detail about what each does better than the other. The whole interview is excellent.

Yeah, probably after he whispered into Nemi's ear, "I hate 2nd-year players."

I must have been one of the few that thought Queta was playing better than Kornet early in the season. I feel Boston had to go with Kornet because Kornet decided to stay in Boston for less money than he could have gotten elsewhere. Kornet was given more opportunity last season because of that and it was a contract year for him. Boston did Kornet right by doing that. Kornet, to his credit took advantage of that opportunity and played well. He improved his game, earning him a big pay day with the Spurs.

With more playing time, Queta should play well. The question is can he be effective as a starter, going up against starting centers. I feel like a combo of Queta and Amari Williams, is going to be better than most people around the league think.

Exactly.

I've seen Celtics fans online really bashing Queta or just hating on him, and I don't really know why. He's a young big, he's mistake prone (like most inexperienced bigs) but he does a lot of really nice things.

Last year Queta-White-Holiday had a +25 net rating, best of ANY Celtic 3-man groupings to play >100 mins.

In 2023 after Rob came back from surgery, White-Tatum-RobWill was the absolute BEST net rating (+22) of any 3-man unit in the entire NBA, minimum 300 mins played. Last year White-Tatum-Queta was a +19 net rating per 100 possessions.

I think Queta is a pretty promising big man who has excelled in his role and I really don't get the hate he receives.

That was probably mostly a rare 100+ minutes in which both JH and DW were playing with Queta against subs. But there's no shame in a young guy being behind KP/AH/LK. He's probably the one guy with the most to gain if he can deliver on the lineup opportunity this year. Heavy minutes from SL into the training camp should help.

I like Queta as well, but your numbers are indeed skewed to favor him. He started against poor teams

Eh. Something to that, especially the games started, many of those were the Charlottes of the world, but not all his PT was against bad teams. I am not saying he is a superstar waiting in the wings, but he is ready to start and contribute more.
If we expand to games > 15 minutes includes several playoff teams and 22-7 record.
I am just really saying I have no problem with him as a starting center getting 25 to 30 minutes and am excited to see it.

I hope so, I really do.

I want to believe that Queta can be a jarret Allen level player, and I would be over the bloody moon with that.

That would be amazing. I doubt he gets quite to that level though. I will be happy with him continuing his progression and productivity with the larger role.

Queta will be playing for Portugal in the upcoming Eurobasket tournament, which starts at the end of August. He's scheduled to face both Jokic and Porzingis.
