I have been looking for some answers to that also. I heard he provides very little rim protection. From the clips that I have watched he seems active on the defensive end but there are obviously some severe limitations that come with a guy that is around 6'7 and 270 pounds.

Here are some clips of him against the Knicks with KAT out and Sims and Precious playing the 5

Yabu isn't a guy you want anchoring your defense at the 5 but he is definitely active and engaged on that end. He has solid defensive IQ.

My totally unprofessional, completely based on highlights (and those times the Knicks play the 6'ers) scouting report

Huge ass
Image

Solid 3 point shooter. Legit. Not Taj or Precious taking the occasional 3
Really good passer from all over the floor. Interior, on the move, from above the 3 point line, you name it.
Sets legitimate screens. Something the Knicks have been missing. Really good screens. Not bullsh*t screens.
Really good at cutting to the basket, either off screens or when the court is more open.
Finishes well at the basket in a variety of ways.
Seems to love to leak out to get out on the break, so effective in the open court.

Apparently not the best defender, but clips indicate really active hands looking for turnovers. I believe the Knicks valued this with all of the above.

Really good pickup. iShart level pickup, but better.

We only have him locked up for one year, as he's got a PO for the 2nd year. I hope the CBA allows us to offer him as much as other teams do when he's a FA.

I’ve done 5 minutes of research and my opinion is that he’s most comparable to former Knicks Obi toppin and Bobby Portis. Should be a solid bench piece. His defense is probably not very good. He can hit the occasional 3. He runs the floor a lot.

Under the filters I use for recent years and players his closest comparison is 2023 trendon watford whatever that means but 2024 Obi is 5th and 2024 portis is 9th on the list of closest comparisons so the numbers meet the eye test

Interestingly the 76ers just signed watford probably to replace the similar yabusele

Good signing. The PO only looks bad with an injury. Now if our coach isn't a moron and has KAT rest early and come back with a second unit to be the offensive engine you have a decent defender to pair with Cone Anthony Toll.

The underrated element to this signing is his ability to read and react in the passing game in a Mike Brown system. His PFs often end up in playmaking situations. Something he picked up coaching Green in GS. Yabu will be the connecter of the offense off the bench.

It is, but the NBAPA decided that it's better for the top tier and near All Star tier guys to make $75m - $40m per and leave the rest of the guys fighting for whatever left.

It's not my money and 5mil is still life changing money, so I don't feel for any of them, but as someone who is pro labor, there is no way the players should have ever agreed to a hard cap.

very fitting for america in general: shrinking middle class with the upper class amassing more than ever.

the majority of players probably just didn't understand what they were voting for which is also very fitting. i wonder if the majority of nba players view the supermax positively, the same way some of the poor class in america view themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

Similar to America we probably won’t know until it’s time to choose new representation, to lead the NBAPL and when it’s time to renegotiate the next contract. So far the only player who has outright come out and said the deal was bad and CJ McCollum failed the players was Draymond who is the most outspoken player in the league. So it’s not a guarantee the majority of players agree.
