It makes sense for a trade with the Mavericks to happen. I know Davis is injury prone, but it doesn't make sense for the Mavs to roster him, Gafford, AND Lively. Gafford is probably the odd player out. I'd prefer someone better of course, but it's a huge improvement over what we have.

This happens every year people say there’s got to be something more a trade is coming then it never does.

The team already has 3 centers on the roster why would they add a 4th?

1 can spend the whole season in GB.

1 has a tiny contract (Moussa) and can spot some minutes at the 4.

Hornets have at least 23 million tied up in the final roster spot. They can give it to Green and buy out Pat Connaughton or they can bundle the two players for a rotation player who earns close to 23 million.

Davis likes to insist he's a power forward.

Not really this off-season but there is a second Furphy and he's going to UConn.

I hope we keep Okogie around, I feel like his defensive skills (length + lateral mobility + defensive IQ) would be an important asset.

God forbid we have a solid 3 and D player.

Even if his recent 3pt shooting turns out to be a fluke I would still keep Okogie. He and Diabate are the only above average defenders on this entire roster right now.

Plumlee and Dinwiddie's existence on this roster will have unfortunate implications, and I think Okogie is one of them.

If contracts weren't an issue, Green, Connaughton, Salaun, Dinwiddie, Plumlee would be off the roster, and we'd be able to keep Okogie and Jeffries (who at a minimum contract, is decent, and far better value than Green at $14M or Connaughton at $9M) but unfortunately Okogie and Jeffries can be cut for nothing, and the other guys have guaranteed money this season.

Unless we're able to find a team willing to take out the trash for us, and execute like a 5 for 1 trade to reduce our roster count, Okogie is probably gone.

Our backcourt defensively will probably be the worst in the league this season.

Even if we were to package Green & Connaughton in a 2-for-1, the incoming player gets the final roster spot, and there is none left over for Okogie.

There is one roster spot between Green, Okogie, and Connaughton. And none if all 3 represent an incoming player whose salary matches those 3.

This is before we even get to decisions on Nick Smith Jr. and Jeffries (more obvious).

The other 14 guaranteed roster spots:

LaMelo
Sexton
Miller
Bridges
Moussa

Mann
Kon
McNeeley
G. Williams
Plumlee

Dinwiddie
S. James
Salaün
Kalkbrenner

Jeff could create 1 more roster spot if he tosses in one of the new rookies after waiting 30 days but that would take us past the July 15th deadline for Okogie.

The roster crunch just highlights how much signing Mason Plumlee screwed us.

Package Green & Pat for a big & release NSJ and keep Okogie.

The big takes 1 roster spot. Okogie takes 1 roster spot. That's 2 roster spots outside the 14 I listed up-thread.

We only have 1 roster spot.

So you can't have Okogie even if you move Green & Pat for a big.

Luckily, our frontcourt will also be one of the worst in the league.

Let’s not kid ourselves folks. Jeff wants another top 5 pick. This is a tank season.

Or the deal lined up for Mark's replacement lies on shaky grounds and we had to make a last ditch effort to salvage the position.

Moussa is Moussa.

Plumlee replaces Nurkic, which some say is close to a wash.

But who replaces Mark?

That's the elephant in the room of the entire offseason.

We have a roster crunch of deadweight contracts and we need to replace Mark without losing too much money.

And we don't want to attach draft capital?

We've seen plenty of deals where Jeff adds draft capital but the shoe is on the other foot given the negative value of Pat at 9.4, Green at 13.6, Okogie at 7.7. You start tossing in guys like Jeffries and NSJ and you run into other rosters with limited space so roster spots are at a premium.

We had a mountain of clutter to begin with, yet still added Plumlee knowing that. It's not a positive indicator on negotiations over any of the targets to replace Mark.

I don’t think they are committed to tanking, but I do believe they want one more rebuilding year while putting some semblance of a competent team on the floor for the fans sanity. Last year was just ridiculous.

Edit: I have no idea if this post even makes sense.

I think it's pretty obvious they're tanking.

If they actually were trying then it's even more of an indictment on their ineptitude if this is the best they can do
