Also, Strus gives good minutes in the playoffs. The Cavs aren't going to dump him.

Strus to Chicago for Collins works in the ESPN Trade machine but maybe it isn't perfect according to the CBA.
Then re-route Strus to GS for Kuminga.
Then re-route Strus to GS for Kuminga.

I guess I keep getting stuck on why the Cavs want to trade Strus for Kuminga, assuming matching salaries, which seems unrealistic.

If Kuminga would sign for 17-18, the Warriors would just sign him and look to trade him in December when his full salary counts. And taking back more salary than they send out caps them at the 1st Apron, an impossible situation for them.

I’d take Strus over Collins. I’d rather just cut out Chicago and Cavs keep Kuminga.

Then you need to get under first apron somehow

Not a legal trade. The Cavaliers are not allowed to take back more salary than they're sending out.Even if it was legal, the Cavaliers need some sort of compensation coming back.

Regardless, Collins makes more than Strus idk why the Cavs would entertain this.

OP, board rules require each trade idea include reasons each team would do that trade and that the idea is CBA legal.
As was pointed out, the Cavs are over the first apron and therefore are limited to bringing back the same amount or less than they send out in salary. This trade has the Cavs bringing back more than they send out.
