Summer League 2025
The team finally got around to publishing the roster. Nothing too exiting. Good to see Rupert out there.

A bunch of retreads, man this is the laziest front office in the NBA
selling 2nd rounders for cash or throwing them away in deals
No interest in proactivelyutilizing 2-ways as a means to improve the big league roster
Using the remix to run stupid 3PT experimental concepts, with players who are not even good shooters like WTF?
Let’s look at the summer league roster shall we, or at least the main players on it
Love, a career .432/.326 2pt/3pt shooter over 5 years, yikes
Yang, likely the next Chinese bust or if you are a true believer the next Yao\Jokic which is so far out there it is beyond delusional, most likely scenario? A low/mid backup for a few years
2025 might be one of the worst drafts by POR ever, particularly given the talent that was available in this draft
Rupert, 3rd summer league and still can’t get himself out of the G league, shot 22.9% from 3pt (3att/g), 69% FT
Cissoko, also in his 3rd summer league, shot 31.8% from 3pt (4att/g) 60% FT, yuck
Pedula might be POR best young player acquired, (E10) 39% from 3pt (6att/g)
Carr, the next G-league Alex Reese non NBA caliber talent? At least he can shoot from range a little 34% career 3pt, but offers little else
What a sad collection of players, 1-4? 0-5?
I know a guy who was on the remix staff awhile ago and he told me that Sergi Oliva, the remix coach at the time and main scout on Yang BTW, was one of the biggest idiots he he had ever seen and THIS is the guy who spearheaded the Yang selection, so enjoy the fruits of his labor
No joke, that guy is an asst GM and he is an imbecile

You mean truth?
I am sure to a sunshine pumper like you it seems that way, fans like you are the reason why current ownership\mgmt have ZERO incentive to try and build a winning team b/c no matter what they do, people like you will find a reason to defend them
Go to any other board of a big city\successful franchise and see what those fans are saying. I can guarantee you it is far worse than my mild, but very deserving criticism
I say this as a Boston Red Sox fan, reading those boards makes me feel like I am way too lenient, and POR boards are so pathetic they go out of their way to defend the team no matter what they do, and don’t think for a minute that the team doesn’t know and exploit it
I have been a fan for 40+ years, I have seen\heard all this before and what has happened over these last few years is amongst the worst when it comes to front office incompetence, but by all means keep ignoring\defending it, maybe some day you will see the light

Love and Yang should be fun to watch. Love is going to put up some huge numbers and probably look like an all-star.
And Yang, I hope they get him the ball so we can see him work the post. Bigs usually don't get many touches in summer league, but I remember when Zach Randolph had a great SL and was dominant in the post. He should at least be able to be a defensive force and grab a lot of rebounds. If he looks overwhelmed out there, we might want to sign another vet center.
Rupert is also a key player to watch, if he can't shine, he needs to get off our our roster.

Happy to see Rupert, Cissoko and Yang out there. I was really hoping that Portland could but a second round pick to get one of the PFs that were available in the second round (for another two-way).
Caleb Love is 23 - don't really understand that but okay. Olivier Nkamhoua is even older at 25. Andrew Carr, same Rupert, Love, Cissoko, Nkamhoua/Carr, Yang.
Yep, really happy they are waiting until after SL to decide the fate of the last rosters spot.

Re: Summer League 2025
It's best to try to stay positive but let's get our first look at Yang.
Hopefully TL will finally be able to play this season for Yang is going to need some time to
adjust. Spending a half season in the G league would allow him to learn more English for there
are no other Chinese players playing in the NBA.
Team still has open roster spots and is well under the tax line and could go get a shooter if one
was available First things first, take a look at the summer league roster

I'm anxious to see Cissoko again. I liked what I saw in limited minutes at the end of the season. Let's see some more!!! Would love to see Rupert take a step forward, as well.

Re: Summer League 2025
That is one weak summer league team. I guess a lot of agents needed favors called in, or something...
Fully expecting Yang to get carte blanche. My guess is that the Blazers are going to be slightly anxious to prove to the world that they didn't make a mistake.
FWIW, I watched KJ and Bryant. KJ looked pretty bad. Bryant looked like he'll have a bit of defensive impact, but is quite a ways away from an offensive impact in the NBA. Gotta have less than 7 fouls in a game though, lol.

Re: Summer League 2025
I watched 3 of the 4 summer league games today, missed LAL\GSW, Knecht had a poor night
Player of the day: Edgecombe was really good
KJ - played passive, did not look to shoot, couple of sloppy passes, not sure why he was not on ball more
Bryant - 3-ball was off today, had 2 very nice on ball mid range 2-3 step jumpers though, limited touches
Topic - had a few issues with ball pressure, TO (7) and physicality, but was very shifty on the ball, made some nice decisions after driving into the paint either scoring or creating easy looks for his teammates, had some nice defensive plays as well
Ajay M - was too good for SL, was as impressive as Wells, he scored impressively in a variety of ways.
Barnhizer- he looked good, shot well, rebounded, very physical and active on offense and defense
Wells - Like Mitchell, too good for SL disregarding why he is playing in SL, and Scoot did not LY & Clingan isn’t this year, he looked impressive, offensively, and defensively
J Small - was quick and shifty, seems to get into the paint when he wants, created some good shots for himself and for others
GG - long and athletic, still seems to primarily be a finisher though, did not display a whole lot else
Spencer - shot pretty well, had a few nice passes as well
Edgecombe - just looked really good out there, plays a jack of all trades type of game trades out there, was very active and making plays on both sides of the floor, the athleticism translates, impressive all-around game, he was the best player on the floor by far
Broome - looked a little plodding\ gravity, bound out there
Sensebaugh - too good for SL, shot the ball and drove well
Bailey - looked ok, active, nice looking jumper had plenty of open looks, kind of hot\cold
Williams - hit a couple of shots, but was pretty quiet out there overall
WCJ - looked small out there and was a little timid IMO, very quiet night
Collier - physical brute kind of game, had a couple of really crafty passes

Re: Summer League 2025
I was listening to the interviews the team posted:
Hansen- working on his english. Sounded very positive.
Rupert said that Toumani, Shaedon and Deni have all been in Portland with him all off-season working on their games. Very good news!
coach Burrell - responded to an interesting question about the necesity to add/modify sets to have an active center in the high-post. Said the team is working on it. Says Hansen is "impressively smart" and that he understands everything basketball immediately. Also that he speaks to him directly on the court, no translator, so that indicates that Yang has been listening to a lot of English and now needs to work on his speaking skills.

This. Those are 1A & 1B in my mind. Will either take a step forward?
Yes, Yang and Clingan are a key but... those are the two I am watching.

So McGowens was let go or still injured? Don’t recall seeing a release from the Blazers?
Not that I mind that much, seemed like a smaller version of Banton
Both Rupert & Cissoko need to show something, going into Y4 and still irrelevant to the big club

Rupert just turned 21 and has been in the league 2-years, stuck behind Simons, Sharpe, Camara, and Thybulle once he returned. You could add Murray to that list, but then that doesn't say a lot. He has the tools, he just needs more of an opportunity and consistency. Ultimately, I hope he replaces Thybulle in the rotation.

Re: Summer League 2025
Looks physically strong, that’s for sure.
Looks a lot more comfortable spinning over his right than left…but that’s most RH players. Honestly, kind of amazed that he’s working on this very basic stuff…although, I do think he needs to unlock more <10’.
Unfortunately, most of this off of high picks he’ll never see, as both Clingan, RW and Yang (and their defenders are going to crowd him when they roll. This would be fine with a C that was a consistent perimeter threat on volume.
