Are we sure the Sixers are not going to spend up to the second apron? On the PHLY Sixers podcast, Bodner talked about how it would be a bad idea to use the TPMLE before signing Grimes since signing Grimes could leave less money under the second apron than the full TPMLE.

Yabu indicated
the Sixers made him a really, real low offer

They weren’t very interested in bringing Yabu back. That’s all.

Why would we want to hardcap this team just to retain Yabu?

Ab-so-lutely. Look at the moves Morey has made this off season, emphasizing youth and upside. How does a 30-year old player who will be into his 30's by the time this group is ready to seriously contend fit what is going on here?

This idea that we have to make an offer as a show of "respect" is absurd, and to blame this on the owner is just pure obsession for those who are already inclined in that direction.

Yabu would be a valuable trade chip if signed for the same contract (tMLE) he got from the Knicks. Which could then be flipped for more YOUNG assets.

The only reason NOT to use the tMLE is for the cheap owner to save money.

They tried this last year with KJM. Then Embiid was out for the year and they sucked. Obviously as an owner, you don't want to pay tax on a 24 win team. You can call him cheap, and maybe you're right, but I still think we all understand.

This year, there is an added negative of hard capping yourself at the 2nd apron if you use the TMLE. Which is just an unnecessary restriction to put on yourself.

Hardcapping at the 2nd Apron is irrelevant since we'll be well under it even after resigning Grimes AND using the tMLE. It's beneficial since we will have to send more salary out then we receive in any trade this season anyway to avoid being hardcapped at the 1st Apron.

Hardcapping at 2nd Apron = irrelevant (except to Joshy's wallet)

Hardcapping at 1st Apron = need to avoid
