Coaching The Wizards

Post#1 » by thomas1897 » Sat Jul 5, 2025 6:24 pm

The Wizards are on a trajectory of building a contending team for playoffs and a possible championship. Players need development and good coaching. Adding a good coach who knows how to get the best from his players and develop good habits is Tom Thibideau. Adding him would move the team in the direction of the playoffs. Could this work with the present staff? Your thoughts Ted Leonsis/ Considering a role for Tom Thibideau as a special consultant would be an excellent move toward a playoff spot and NBA Title.

What would Leonsis have to do with hiring a coach?

In any case, we've got a terrific coach right now.

Thibodeau is a good coach but I don’t think his strength is player development. I also can’t see that he’d want to come here at the stage we’re in - maybe in another 2 years or so
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

And I agree with PIF - Keefe is doing a great job. Hard to know what kind of advanced offensive or defensive system he’d use, or how he’d be at playoff adjustments. But our guys have stayed with the program, are developing well, and he seems to work well with the FO. I don’t see a need for change

I agree with PIF. Keefe has been a good coach for this team during its rebuilding phase. Young guys are getting minutes, playing hard, and improving. I see no reason to change at the moment. And I'm definitely not interested in a guy who refuses to play youngsters and only plays his best 6 or 7 players for the entire season.

It's possible that Keefe is only good as a player development coach and not so good as an in-game tactician. We don't really know yet because we haven't played any meaningful games. Maybe, at some future point, we will have to change from a player development coach to an in-game tactician. But that time is not now.

Winning games this coming season is not the goal.

nate33/ You realize what Tom Thibideau's value as special consultant could be to the coaching staff. To evaluate this team to be a contender is important. Growth-maturity as a team is critical and getting the right complimentary pieces build winning teams. Team culture

Do you honestly believe that Thibideau would accept a "special consultant" role that is subordinate to Coach Brian Keefe?
