19 year old rookie is going to need some patience. Go figure. The learning curve for a young PG in the NBA is the hardest. He has all the tools to be a good one. Think it would be wise to bring in a vet PG to place hold start and not rush the kid.

Once he settles in it should start to spike. Hes had good looks.

Game Review: Miami Heat vs. San Antonio Spurs (Summer League Opener)
Final Score: Miami Heat 82, San Antonio Spurs 73

Overall impression: Unimpressive win.

The Miami Heat began their 2025 Summer League campaign with a win, but to me the victory was unconvincing. While the box score shows a nine-point margin, the game raised many questions. This was a bad basketball game.

Impressions:

#64, Erik Stevenson’s shooting stood out. The veteran guard came off the bench with poise, scoring 16 points on a perfect 4-for-4 from three and 4-for-4 from the line. 26 years-old, with many years of college and g-league ball, it is little surprise that his shooting stroke looked polished, and his decision-making calm amid the chaos. He looked like someone who has played a ton of games—because he has.
Kel’el Ware, #7, had an active game, finishing with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks. His touch inside was inconsistent, but his defensive tools flashed often. He altered shots at the rim, ran the floor hard, and looked comfortable with the pace of the game. I already knew how good he was, so this performance was disappointing to me. His 3-pt shooting did not look great at all.
Pelle Larsson, #9, on the other hand, despite missing all four of his threes, got to the line repeatedly and hit 10-of-11 free throws. He didn’t force his offense and absorbed contact well. Despite not getting a steal or block, his defense was good enough to meet the game’s challenges.

But...

Most of the game sucked for us though. Team shooting outside of Stevenson was a disaster. The rest of the squad shot just 2-for-25 from deep—an abysmal 8%. While the Summer League environment can be chaotic, this level of shooting stagnation is hard to overlook, especially from a group with multiple guards and wings fighting for their NBA futures.
Kasparas Jakucionis, #25, in his pro debut, looked understandably rattled. He shot 1-for-7, committed three turnovers, and couldn’t get into the lane with any confidence. He’s young (just 19) and this was his first pro-level action, but the step up and speed of the game clearly overwhelmed him.
Kira Lewis Jr. #53, had a rough showing as well. He finished 2-for-8 from the field, didn’t get to the line, and was largely ineffective on offense outside of a few ball movement sequences. I had hoped that Lewis, a formerly great prospect with years of NBA experience, would dominate a Summer League setting—but that did not happen.
Bryson Warren, #55, and Javonte Cook, #59, also played a large part of the game. Neither player seemed to separate from the pack, and both struggled with physicality and rhythm. Warren, in particular, looked hesitant with his shot and was a step slow in rotations. Cook and Stevenson led the team in BPM though.

Frontcourt...

Keshad Johnson (#16) defended, rebounded, and played hard. He managed 9 points and 9 rebounds in 28 minutes and was arguably Miami’s most consistent physical presence. However, his shooting woes (0-for-2 from three) and complete absence as a playmaker remain limitations. It was a very pedestrian game for a guy who shouldn’t be looking like Summer League material. He already has a roster space on our team.
Vlad Goldin brought energy and soft touch around the rim in limited action. He had 7 points and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes and finished 3-of-6 from the floor. I thought he looked a lot slower than I expected.

Bottom line, this was not an impressive performance. The Heat won, but they looked disjointed offensively and underwhelming in several individual matchups. Stevenson was the lone bright spot among the wings, and Ware showed promising tools —but aside from that, it was a game of missed shots, poor spacing, and low impact from key players.
Of course, this was just Game 1. For many of these players, it was their first taste of the NBA ecosystem. Adjustments, nerves, and growing pains are part of the process. But if this Heat Summer League team hopes to make a statement, it’ll need a much cleaner and more cohesive effort in the games ahead.

David Jones-Garcia was easily the best offensive player for the Spurs. He poured in 18 points, drew 10 free throw attempts, and pulled down 7 rebounds in 21 minutes. He looked comfortable hunting shots and didn’t shy away from contact. His jumper wasn’t falling (1-for-5 from three), but he stayed aggressive and was one of the few players to play with consistent confidence.

Ima just say, with the way things have shaped out this offseason… Kelel has been shifted to the untouchable bin by the fanbase and the front office, you cant put him on the trade block for durant or anyone, not even jokic. He needs to start looking like he is too damn good for summer league. He cant be looking like just another guy there

I wouldn’t read too much into 1 crappy SL game. He’s a work in progress and probably nervous for his first taste at the pro level.

My league pass stream was pretty blurry, at times it was difficult to tell he and Pelle apart. He has good size, but it’ll take time for him to get comfortable at the level. He may get some Sioux Falls reps this season.
