Re: (Shams) Whitmore to Wizards
He was pick number 20 a couple years ago and his value has not improved from that #20 FRP value point since then- I'd say his value would have been lower than the number 20 pick in this draft.
So two strong seconds doesn't seem like all that bad a value for him at this stage.

Re: (Shams) Whitmore to Wizards
Seems about right for all parties involved. Wizards have a glut of second round picks and minutes available. Rockets get a little flexibility moving forward and Whitmore gets a chance to show he deserves more minutes.
Good deal.

It tells you where his actual value is at.

Why is that odd? What has he proven other than being two years older from a draft he fell in due to obvious and major medical concerns?
He’s also extension eligible next season. I personally think Houston won this trade.
I guess it makes sense moneywise, but as a prospect with his skills/age I thought more teams would take a bet on him. It's not like he is a bust or anything.Dude can play.
And that’s why he got 2 seconds . He has shown something that’s he’s more than a second rounder but not shown enough consistency that you would be comfortable extending him within 2 season so might as well take a flyer on a first rounder with 4 years under contract which he isn’t worth.

Vet minimum because they’re hard capped at the first apron.
Melton, Brogdon, Payton II, etc…
Or just stay at 14 players for flexibility.
The buyout market come February is always weak. I'd use the roster spot now for either guard insurance or a summer league stand out. Melton would be my choice out of the guys you listed.

Personally, I don’t see Whitmore panning out, but it’s a fair deal for both sides.

It's at least one SRP more than he's worth. Well done, Rockets.

Thought the Hawks could get in on him, but surely he would be unhappy playing behind Zac. He's a good prospect and likely to get plenty burn with DC.

Wildly talented guy, if I'm the Wizards I just hand him the keys to my offense. He doesn't turn 21 until July 8, so I am sure it would be rough, but If you told me the Rockets were giving away Jalen Green and putting Cam Whitmore in his place I'd expect similar results to year three Jalen Green.

Re: (Shams) Whitmore to Wizards
Whitmore was averaging over 10 a game in 16 min per game. If Whitmore is getting the minutes the Wiz is giving their young guys, he can easily jump to close to 20 ppg.
If I squint, I can see him playing a Jalen Williams type of role as a ball-handling point forward, with Vukcevic playing the Hartenstein role for a year.
This is very similar to how the Rockets and thunder turned around so quick; get a bunch of young guys to fight for minutes and role; then when you get a pecking order, add a stabilizing vet and a “guy”.

Cavs should’ve done this or even given up Porter and 2 2nds. Whitemore would’ve been a good piece for them.

His defense is awful. I think they learned their lesson with Niang.

You do realise the knock on him is that he doesn’t pass up any shots right ?

Re: (Shams) Whitmore to Wizards
Unless he's really changed his game since he entered the league coming out of HS and college, he was looking for his shot first and always. When he put the ball on the deck it was to go right to the hoop. Lots of tunnel vision with little else than straight line drives to the rim. Wouldn't count on much point forward out of him.GatherStepGuru wrote:Whitmore was averaging over 10 a game in 16 min per game. And that’s okay. I’m sure he’d heard enough about it behind the scenes. I also think he barely got minutes in Houston, and probably decided “in my few minutes, I’m going to get mines”. In a different situation where he’s not worried about minutes, hopefully his game grows.
Washington has like 7 or 8 guys under 22-23 years old; they’re young enough to not miss 2nd rounders. These are the types of shots Washington has needed to take for years. They actually have young guys that, if they tried to trade them, other teams would give up picks for.
This isn’t too far off from the package WAS got for Rui Hachimura, and way better than paying Kuminga 30 million to put up similar numbers.

But him so far is totally not a Jalen Williams ball handling forward type of role he has filled.
