Cam Whitmore probably isnt good! Idk why Heat fans are so obsessed with him. Hes got tunnel vision baaaaaad. Like Shabazz Muhammad bad

Risk/ reward on Cam makes sense. He'd be a cheap flyer.

Kuminga likewise has tunnel vison only he costs considerably more both in terms of assets surrendered to get him and the price tag of his looming extension.

Everybody who thinks this is a 50-win team should be throwing tons of money down on the over when Vegas releases the win total over/unders.

For reference, Vegas had Miami at 44.5 going into last season.

Personally I don’t get it, everyone was garbage in the playoffs but Tyler outperformed just about every expectation last season. Doesn’t mean max him but it should earn you at least a little good will from the fanbase. Both he and Bam are treated a little too disposable simply for not being clear franchise cornerstones.

Herro I bet ends up making an all NBA team and becomes super max eligible

He’s going to be the clear cut 1 now with an offseason and training camp built around that idea

Will be the focal point of defenses which is a role he's not fitted for.

Cant deal with doubles, and has a weak handle against aggressive POA defenders.

Turnovers will be sky high for him, and for the team, btw.

He was that all year, who do you think teams were focusing on? Larson? Herro just needs ONE player on the perimeter that another team has to account for. OR maybe Ware becomes a legit inside threat , that would be great too.

The regular season and the playoffs are two different animals. Honestly what team will game plan for this version of the Heat in the regular season? Factor the injuries to guards in the East and how Herro has a tendency to start strong, its not a stretch to see him make the Allstar team if we are .500 or above.

Anyone who thinks this is a 50-win team should give me some of whatever it is that they're smoking - because it must be some good sh*t.

Had a strong start, particularly early in the season when he was making quick decisions and limiting his dribbles.

That's the role that Herro's best for; off ball, catch n shoot/ 3 dribbles or less per touch.

The top of the key stuff as a primary function is a miscasting

Amen Thompson, heck, the Anthony Black's of the league put him in a stray jacket.

The entire half court offense short circuits when he's in that role - poor ball movement, and too often enough, late shot clock forced shots, if not a flat out turnover.

Herro cooked Thompson that game he got slammed.

What happened the second game later in the season when they prioritized him as the first option - to my point.

IMO, acquiring cheap assets with upside is a smart business model.

No excuse for sitting on your hands when the price is dirt.

Not arguing that. The issue is that we're not going to acquire every cheap asset. We already have a crap ton.

Last year, we picked up Davion Mitchell on the cheap. How'd he do?

We got Kel'el Ware. How did he do?

This year we nabbed Kasparas Jakučionis. How's he going to do?

Jovic, Jacquez, Larsson, Goldin. These are cheap assets!

Edit: and Whitmore might go off and it still doesn't mean that we were going to beat two second round picks from a crap team because our second round picks aren't worth Washington's! And he may not fit our system!

Hou got 2 2nds but that doesn’t necessarily mean that 2 2nds was all they were interested in.

Some reports suggested that Hou was looking for a vet defensive wing rotation player. Highsmith fits that bill.

Have no idea if Mia called Hou but imo they should have and offered him. And if necessary, sweetened it with 1 2nd.

I will probably be betting on the Miami W/L total for sure

This team won’t be that bad with Spo at the helm. I’ve seen him do more with less

Watch we won’t even be in the play in. I think Jimmy was mucking stuff up around here, it’s back to the Spo way of doing things.

I'd probably bet the under on 50, but I also think people who assume we'll easily end up with another lottery pick are going to be disappointed. This squad is more talented than the 11-30/30-11 team, though also younger and more unproven. I get it though, people are scared of treadmill territory, and I worry too, but we'll see.

The way I see it, if JK and Ware aren't really ready yet, we may underperform and get in the lottery. But if one or especially both are more ready than thought, then yeah this could easily be a surprise 50 win squad, because we now have potentially good players at what were traditionally our two weakest positions in the Jimmy era. And there's other wild cards as well, like Jovic/Larson/Jaime. Any one of those three making a leap could also have a huge impact, any one of them could be the small forward of the future.

9 teams total last season won 50 games or more

Mia will barely break 30 wins and that’s if they manage to escape the injury bug.

Team has a real shot at being a bottom 5 team next year

This is just hyperbole, or maybe wishful thinking, but why is the team going to be worse with zero Jimmy distraction and another year of development for all of our players? Is it the loss of Duncan Robinson? Or the extra mileage on key vets like Kevin Love and Andrew Wiggins?

Don't get me wrong, I think we could do for another year in the lottery, but its going to take a lot of nagging "injuries" for guys like Bam/Herro to make sure that happens.

The Jimmy zero distraction excuse is a cope

The roster sucks is the reality

And spo hasn’t been a good regular season coach in a long time

The rosters have been mediocre, but I actually think Spo's been fine as far as coaching, and performed about as could be expected or even surpassed expectations. I'll never trust fanbases with regards to coaching, every team board on this site wants to fire their coach, the Knicks got their wish and replaced Tom Thibodeau with Mike Brown, I'm sure that'll go over well.

Thing is, in the same way I'd say people are being homers if they think we're going to be a top 4 seed for sure next year, I also think people planning for us to be in the lottery and scrape to 30 wins are also similarly using homer goggles in a different way. I'm not happy that we're probably going to win somewhere between 42 and 46 games and be a lower playoff seed, but that's just the kind of organization the Heat are, they're going to squeeze everything they can out of this roster. The only hope (if you want an actual tank season) is for there to be injuries, or for the team to wildly underperform in the first half of the season to the point they might put up the white flag and start resting guys.

If this team fails to pick up any true 3 point shooters it’s dead on arrival and our front court of Ware and Bam is going to suffer. Need snipers coming from the starting PG and SF spot to ease up the spacing in the front court for Ware and Bam.

Return to Miami Heat
