Morey is very good at picking up young talent in the draft, making trades and Free Agency signings less so.

Anyhow happy for Philly fans you have found a ripper in VJ after the season from hell.

Hope Nurse isn't too conservative with him and let's him play plenty of minutes, he could be a ROTY candidate.

Kyle has no defensive upside at all. I like him, but I think he is going to be a 6th man.

That's a pretty solid summer league Jazz team that VJ just outplayed. Good sign for Sixers fans.

If he can replicate MoeSwags game then he has a future in this league. All O no D 6th man big.

I was at the games tonight in Salt Lake City. In the 2nd half, I could see Ace Bailey was exhausted. He could barely keep his feet under him and was bending over and gasping for air every chance he got. He was good in the 1st quarter, but he's not ready for NBA speed and intensity, especially at Utah's elevation. I'm guessing he didn't workout too hard before the draft. The Jazz are going to need to build him up all summer.

By contrast, VJ Edgecombe looked like he could play all day. His energy level never dropped. He doesn't have an advanced handle, but if the Sixers can space the floor well enough for him he'll get by defenders. His playstyle reminds me a bit of Larry Hughes, using his athleticism to get a step and then rising up in the mid-range. I still think he's probably a team's third option, but maybe he can be a #2 option. He'll be really good cutting off the ball and letting other players create time and space for him to keep things simple. He's difficult to stay in front of, and once he gets a step he's gone. If he becomes a really reliable shooter, it's over. He'll be close to unguardable.

Watching Kyle bite on Adem Bona's up-fakes 28 feet out on the floor was a real headscratcher. He did it like three times in a row.

Flip doesn't have enough defensive presence at the rim. He's really more of a 4, but can play a stretch 5. He might be a bit similar to Al Horford, imo.

Brice Sensabaugh is improving his body and learning to play defense enough to play in the league. Both he and Jaylen Wells were knockdown shooters tonight.

Cody Williams showed some proof of life tonight. His role model might be Jaden McDaniels if he can grow into that 3D role.

Justin Edwards is a nice young player. Has some similarities with RJ Barrett, imo.

Edgecombe has always been my darkhorse for ROY and best player to come out of this class pick. It's still summer league so don't want to get too excited yet. However the guy has superstar potential written all over him since I saw him play for the Bahamas national team.

He still has a lot of work to do as far as isolation skill goes. But I like that he's also active off the ball and on defense. I disagree with the Hughes comparison. Hughes was more of a ball dominant guard that gambles a lot on defense. They have different skill base. I think VJ's raw game is based on athleticism. VJ reminds me more of Jason Richardson type but VJ is smaller but a bit more skilled at the same age and more fluid. JRich was never able to develop an isolation game, I think VJ can develop a more advanced isolation game. But I hope he doesn't become a full-time iso guy because his off the ball instinct is really good. He can be more impactful being able to play both ways with and without the ball. It's especially useful playing alongside Embiid and Maxey.

So for Memphis:

Cam Spencer, Jaylen Wells and GG Jackson don't need to be here. Those guys are all legit NBA players. They're just wasting their time. I did like what I saw from Javon Small as well, who they are signing to a two-way. If the previous three I mentioned are all rotation players next year (Wells is for sure), then Memphis may surprise.

The injuries to Jackson and Edey though took the wind out of my sails with regard to their upside. But Memphis will once again have a ton of depth on the roster. If they can weather the storm early in the season, perhaps they'll be a playoff contender after all.

Can't wait for him to prove them all wrong

Anyhow both Sixers and Jazz fans can take a lot of positives about their kids from this game. I enjoy seeing the next gen of players start their NBA journey. Been a decent game to watch.

1. He brought it on himself

2. Why is pointing out reality wanting him to fail and being a hater?

People can think he’s going to fail because of his crappy attitude and ugly game.

The dude came into summer league and definitely did not beat the accusations of being a me first shot chucker who takes some really terrible shots. The ball died every single time it touched his hands.

Sure it’s summer league but there’s no reason to think he’s not going to just do it in the regular season too

Got to love them. Really difficult to take anything out of these games. For VJ it will always come down to how his shot will develop efficient wise, we already know he’s super athletic. Scoring 28 points on 27 shots in a summer league game doesn’t really tell you much.

One game doesn't tell you much but it tells you more than 0. VJ did a lot of things well and better than I thought particularly finishing around the rim and through traffic but shooting 1-7 from 3 is where the improvement needs to happen. He isn't going to be the focal point obviously in order for him to be efficient offensively as a sixer he needs to be a knock down open 3pt shooter.

Of course its one summer league game and maxey entered the league not being able to hit 3's plenty of time but if he is going to have a huge rookie year he needs to hit his 3's. His defense was as advertised. He's going to be a positive impact player regardless

Didn't watch the game but saw the box score.

After all the draft night pouting and talk of him possibly not reporting to Utah, Ace Bailey needed a stronger start to his pro career....just to quite the talk and start doing some immediate PR repair.

Obviously it's just one bad showing in a meaningless exhibition, so only idiots will make more of it than what it is. But if you're in the Ace camp a strong performance last night would've gone a long way towards putting all that other nonsense behind them.

Al played bigger than his size. He could body up prime Dwight to an extent. He looks like a KO variant, maybe tougher post defender.

I hope I'm wrong, but he gives me strong Player Who Cannot Win vibes, like DeMarcus Cousins, Tracy McGrady, Ben Simmons, and Russell Westbrook. (I'm sure there are many other players like this, but these are some of the most talented ones.)

Is Harper playing today? Why didn't he play the other day?
