I think Grimes is the best player here so why are the Sixers adding a pick?

Maxey and Cade would be sick. Don’t think DET has what it takes to get Maxey straight up, though.

DAL gets Monk, Oubre, and Drummond
PHI gets PJ Washington, Keegan Murray, and Khris Middleton
SAC gets PG, McCain, and Prosper
WSH gets DDR, Klay, and 4 PHI 2nds

You could also cut out WSH, bring Klay and DDR to PHI, and send Council to SAC to make the deal work.

If I'm the Warriors, I'd just go out and sign Horford instead of gutting my depth and future assets for a guy no one knows will even play half a season again.

My knee jerk to the first sentence is: why?

But looking at the trade... the Warriors aren't giving up all that value for the remains of Embiid.

I think from GSW side, they go for one more big swing with Curry/Butler, who are both tight with Embiid. Kuminga is already on his way out, even if they re-sign him. I think Draymond has also worn out his welcome.

From our side, you get a 22-year-old wing to pair with the rest of our core. Kuminga has a pretty awesome TS% and FTr with average to above-average defensive and rebounding metrics. On top of that, we get more picks to find our big star down the line through either the draft or trade. In 1-2 years, George's contract becomes a nice big salary filler for a star, or multiple smaller pieces.

The issue, based purely on speculation, is that Morey probably believes we can steal a chip this year if Embiid is healthy. The reality is we should've traded Embiid last summer after watching him in the Olympics. I think his value now is higher than it will be in a year. If it's higher in a year, then you're not trading him, but I find that to be much less likely.

I do think Kuminga has some all-star seasons in his future, just not sure I want them to be with us.

For what it's worth. Curry/Kerr seem to think he's a bit of a dope. I trust their opinion.

If Grimes takes his QO, all Morey has to do is dump Oubre and Drummond at the deadline, then sign a pro rated minimum guy to avoid the tax for the third straight year.

Hat trick!

Did Drummond, Oubre and Gordon sign their contracts without a 'no trade clause' or trade veto option?

They can be traded without their permission.

The only player we'd have to worry about with that is Grimes if he ends up signing the qualifying offer.

I hope we can find landing spots for some of our dead weight without having to lose picks. We can't keep doing that.

Edit: I may actually be wrong on that when it comes to Gordon and Lowry. I heard Bodner say on a podcast that when you re-sign a player to a minimum contract they effectively have a no trade clause. Or at least I think he said that? Never heard that rule before.

I did some reading on that before posting the question. All this talk of trading them may be for nought if they don't agree to be traded. Hence my question.

Re signing 1 year deals. Two year with player option, both have no trade unless agreed to. The veto power is grey to me. Haven't clarified that one.

I can't access actual contract details, so can only go off of commentary also.

So Grimes 7.5m + 5m for a 20m return?

Are you sure.

*If the Bulls could sign Giddey for that, why would they trade him?

My bet is that they don't have any serious long term offer for Grimes on the table, and are basically waiting for him to sign his QO. Meanwhile, Grines' agent is probably trying to drum up some S&T scenarios.

Giddey would be nice in theory, but 4-120? For a pass first PG/PF Aussie who can't really shoot (yes he made improvements last year but needs to do it again before it's real)?

I don't think so. S&T Grimes would hard cap them at thr first apron which they would most certainly be over (the other team would have to absorb Grimes and send back a player making <$2.M.

If Grimes takes the QO, then they can't trade him which would cost you a huge benefit of re-signing him to a fair offer.
