He’s 32 and probably needs a paycheck.

I don’t see a team that stands out with big PF minutes available.

I can’t imagine that he’d turn down a guaranteed offer at this point.
32? Damn I thought homie was mid 20s. Yeah he better gone and get what he can get at this point.

For real

I didn’t realize that either at first. Looks like he didn’t come in til he was already 25.

He'll have a market at the vet minimum. The Warriors, Celtics, and Suns stick out.

The Pistons might have 10 MPG to offer him in a healthy rotation. I get that the rotation will not be healthy at all points, but those teams could offer him pretty significant minutes off the bat. Goodness knows the Suns need some size at forward, and they've got only 12 players rostered at the moment.

Why does Dallas get rid of PJ Washington? I see his name mentioned but he seems like a good fit with what they have built.

I think people feel that, given their apparent commitment to playing AD at the 4, that they don't have minutes for him and are less likely to commit money to him beyond this year.

I'm not endorsing that point of view.

Ya, that's more just wishful thinking. On my part anyways. Doubt Dallas would ditch him for what would likely be Monk.
Oh well, looks like we're gettin nobody from Shröder deal.

Even IF the Mavs were prepared to move on from PJ due to their big rotation, he'd still be a piece with positive value- his bird rights have value. They're not going to dump him for a dubious contract like Monk.

For what it's worth, I think they hold onto him. Their big rotation hasn't proven it can stay healthy and PJ brings a different dimension to it. I'm actually willing to bet that with time missed from other guys he still gets plenty of minutes.

Disappointed that Langdon couldn't be in on that for Collins, pretty much a no risk decent upside move. Oh well

Based on what he was asking from the Warriors -- Moody, Podz, multiple 1sts, multiple pick swaps -- I think this would be too little.

I also think, though, that the Pistons wouldn't do this unless they had a genuine high-caliber #2 creator on the team. Markkanen is chiefly an off-ball player; he's best suited as a #3 option.

I’m still unsure as to whether trading for Lauri is a good idea, but if we’re going to do it, this is the likely avenue — heavy draft compensation.

You do this trade if you’re confident that the team is ready to be a contender for a few years (thru 2029, but not necessarily next year). You’d think the swap is mostly meaningless, so it’s just Tobias and two firsts in the 20’s for Lauri. That’s not overpaying.

Now (wildly) assuming Utah is interested in such a deal, Detroit has to speculate on the kind of improvement they’ll get from the guys on rookie contracts, because any further avenues for improvement would come from trading those players or just the players themselves. Will Duren play defense? Will Ivey play defense and continue to develop on offense? Will Ausar develop as a ball handler and with his shot? What does Ron Holland become? It’s those guys, Cade, Lauri, Stew, and whatever free agents we end up with over time, that’s the squad barring more trades.

Still waffling. I think I’d like to see another year of development (or lack thereof) before committing to this, but maybe the opportunity to get a potentially near-elite fit and player doesn’t present itself again. Maybe Ainge deals Markkanen elsewhere if we pass. Hard to say.

Good points. I guess Tobias has to be included in any trade in order to match salaries. And Markinen would certainly help our roster. But for some reason I’d be hesitant to pull the trigger on this. Maybe his $45M a year salary. There’s no more big three teams w the new CBA. So Lauri HAS TO BE the magical #2 behind Cade. I’m not so confident of that.
