From the Ian Begley tweet that just got posted
Ian Begley wrote:Brown was fired by SAC last December during the first year of a raise/extension that paid him $8.5M annually through 2026-27. The specific structure/details of Brown’s Kings deal is unknown. But SAC will almost certainly save money on what it owes Brown because of Brown’s new NYK contract and the offset clause. This clause, which is standard in NBA coaching contracts, says that when a coach is hired by a new team, the new salary will offset some - or all - of the money remaining on the contract the coach had with his/her previous team.
So yeah, Vivek owes Dolan. SAC should do something for NYK
I don't know if we could get Trey Lyles in a sign and trade with these apron rules, but he was a 37% 3pt shooter under Mike Brown and got steady minutes.

Is there anyone who loved the hire? I think most posters wanted any unknown assistant
I definitely appreciate the hire. I viewed Thibs as a lost cause anchor on whatever high end potential this team has, and hiring ANY coach who was more adaptive/creative/proactive in their coaching style would be an automatic boost to the chances (note, not saying guarantees) of fully realizing this team's true upside.
I also live in SAC, and Brown was not a problem when he was here for the diehards I know - they almost exlusively blame 1) De'Aaron Fox's attitude (they don't hate him, most love him as a player and a King, they just feel like he didn't want to be here in the end, and that was the root of the tumult), and 2) Sabonis' play style - they love him and the awesome positives he brings, but at the same time know he's poor defensively and that Joker is probably the only center you can run an entire team/offense through and still hope to legitimately challenge for a title.
Brown being a seemingly highly adaptive personality as a head coach is an enormous breath of fresh air to me, and something I'm really excited and eager to see put into action next season with the Knicks. An intelligent guy who's in touch with the modern NBA, seen first hand what it takes to be a champion, is willing to make changes and hold people to account based on observations and input, and still commands respect in league circles is exactly what I wanted in place of an untenable Thibs situation. I didn't know Brown to be that guy heading into this search, but he seems to check a lot of those boxes, and Leon believes in him, so I'm excited.
You've almost convinced me. Then, again, this is the team that hired Fizdale.

Ian Begley:
At the time of his firing, the Knicks still owed Tom Thibodeau at least $30M on his contract. So Between Thibodeau’s deal and Brown’s deal, which was noted earlier by @CPTheFanchise, New York has a total of *$70M in committed salary to the head coaching position over the next four years. *This number does not factor in the impact of the offset clause on Brown’s deal and any potential buyout agreement between the Knicks and Thibodeau.

Re: Knicks to Hire Mike Brown as Next Head Coach
Knicks want Darvin ham
Phoenix and now New York — after the hiring of Mike Brown as the Knicks' new head coach — have expressed interest in trying to hire Darvin Ham away from the Bucks, The Stein Line has learned.
Yet those would be considered lateral moves for Ham, who is Milwaukee's top assistant to Doc Rivers. I'm told the Bucks love having Ham back in their midst after his two-season stint as the Lakers' head coach and are determined to keep him in Brewtown unless he secures another head coaching opportunity elsewhere.
Brown, new Suns head coach Jordan Ott and Grizzlies coach Tuomas Iisalo, who secured the full-time post in Memphis after his nine-game (plus playoffs) interim stint last season, are all in the market for a No. 1 assistant.
As I reported Friday, New York is expected to pursue former Lakers, Cavaliers and Raptors assistant coach Phil Handy for a spot on Brown's staff after they worked together with both the Cavaliers and Lakers. Handy is also a candidate to join Jason Kidd's staff in Dallas after the departure of God Shammgod to Orlando.

It’s like when lil bitches make subliminal records, if it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it

if they're interested in Ham, does that mean they were given a "firm no" on Borrego?

Who is the Lakers hat guy?
Will Brown be introduced in a media conference in NY soon? Before he goes to Vegas for SL?

Re: Knicks to Hire Mike Brown as Next Head Coach
It’s interesting that all the reports have said the front office expects to play double bigs. I’m gonna be curious what kind of offense brown is going to design for us cuz that’s so different than his kings rotations. So much of his kings offense revolved around dribble hand offs between Sabonis and everyone else. I’d want to use Kat in all those actions but if Mitch is on the floor, what is going to stop Mitch’s man cheating off him breaking up the play. The other option is have Mitch in those actions and is that something you really want?

How is Mitch's man going to break up the play if Brunson and Mitchell run a pick and roll, and Mitch is a lob threat?

I wasn’t talking about 1-5 PNR. I was talking about all the DHO variations that brown ran with Sabonis as the hub. Have to imagine that Leon saw those plays and imagined Kat and Brunson in the action in placea of Sabonis and fox. You’re gonna run some 1-5 PNR but how much do you want Kat standing in corner?

If we're not trading our wings, and we know we're not trading KAT, then we're not going for Bron or Giannis. Interesting news. The issue of Mikal's extension must have been quietly worked out and will be announced at a later date. Glad Mike Brown seems so accessible. All Thibs ever told us was gotta look at the tape, and the game tells you what to do. This was factual news from Brown.
