And people that complain about players not chucking the ball at the end of games are stupid too. Heaves happen all the time either way, most don't go in and most players only take about 2 per season.

Basically, this is a rule created for the people that have nostalgia goggles.

Meanwhile the number and length of stoppages remain unaddressed

What are you b*tching for? The only way this would affect you is you wouldn't have to watch this 1,000x per season anymore:

Yeah no kidding. People acting like they had the Over in heaves next year or something, lol. Besides, there were already times the official scorer wouldn't count something as a shot attempt if it wasn't a particularly good heave.

Not everyone is built like Curry and Jokic.

Curry and jokic also have max contracts until the end of time and no one cares what their specific percentages are. I could see a role player right at the 35% border, which seems to be what teams are looking for, who doesn't want a few heaves to knock them down to 34.7% and screw up a contract. I mean people can say the NBA tracks heaves and you could tell the team you're actually at 35% but teams are going to use wherever they can against you.

I like the rule. Even logically it makes sense in a way - 3 point % is supposed to judge a players ability to make 3's. However, it doesn't account for end of quarter heaves / very very low % shots that distort the % ... So taking those away actually makes it more accurate.

Now the counterpoint is - 3 point % doesn't account for a lot of things tied to difficulty of shots. And that's true. But this rule is so simple with practically no negative drawback that I find it a no-brainer ...

I saw 1 poster above say "This does nothing except artificially inflate field goal percentages by a minimal amount" ... In fact this rule EXISTS because the end of quarter heaves "artificially deflate field goal % by a minimal amount" precisely. So I'm all for correcting that.

I'm completely indifferent to it. I guess I'm less indifferent if now some super mentally weak losers will heave them instead of protecting their FG%, but that's about it.

Honestly this is a good thing. SGA hasn’t made a single heave for his entire career. This should force him to work on that and extend his range beyond the 3 point/ half court line.

A heave is as hard as a fouled attempt, so neither should count as attempts  unless they go in!

Good point

Aww man. I thin it's hilarious when some dudes intentionally heave the ball right after the buzzer goes off to make it look like they're actually trying to do something.

Why would role players taking those shots. You want your best players taking them
