What's the word on when Daulton Varsho comes back?

He's started to run again. Maybe end of June/early July?

Re: Varsho/Moreno Discussion Thread
heard from someone who spoke to an dbacks official this week that said something to the effect of maybe the dbacks should have traded for kirk instead of gabbie. because why wouldn't they? one is an elite catcher and the other can't hit the ball out of the infield.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

I had dropped Kirk in my fantasy league, really happy I quickly picked him back when he went on his hot streak.

did the same. Kirk hit the waivers a couple of times this season. But I'm rocking with both William Contreras and Kirk, though Contreras has really been a letdown for what I paid for him (auction draft).

Kirk into 14th in fWAR in baseball after tonight's game. An MVP finalist indeed.

Re: Varsho/Moreno Discussion Thread
Was Moreno injured during that series we had with the D-Back? I was busy with work and couldn't catch the full games but I didn't see him during the games or the box scores.

Moreno has been injured the past couple of weeks with a hand fracture, and is on the Injury List right now.

Re: Varsho/Moreno Discussion Thread
Really happy for Kirk. I was very concerned about his career arc prior to this bounce back campaign. He and Springer are so important to the offence I really hope they can sustain.
But not sure why this is in the Varsho/Moreno trade thread as he was not involved in that deal.

It's almost like for 2 years Kirk did nothing. Seems like someone forgot that before putting out that tweet.

Probably because the Jays chose Kirk over Moreno in making the deal and this thread had been used to trash that decision for over 2 years (despite it being a very good one).

They're trying everything and anything to justify this trade. As soon as you consider Kirk, you have to add Carroll into the equation for Zona.

Why? Aren't there 3 outfield spots? Catcher is uniquely single positional.
A Carroll Varsho pairing in the outfield is purely additive.

The crux of the argument is the player they held onto. If we're assuming Jays held onto Kirk because they thought he was the best option (and not because 'Zona coveted Moreno), then you have to use the same metric for Zona who held onto Carroll over Varsho. If the argument is, Jays were dealing from a position of strength, so was Zona. They were a good match as trading partners.
Jays were also trying Moreno at other positions (3rd base) because of his athleticism and try to utilize his bat in the lineup.

Yeah - I'm going to stick to the traditional way of evaluating a trade - you know the players that went each way. Gurriel and Moreno for Varsho. I still have Arizona winning the trade, but hold out hope Varsho will become an above average hitter (which is what they were betting on). I've enjoyed his defence but would much prefer if he could go back to hitting over 25 hrs with 750ops.
