Re: Summer League Thread
I recall Anthony Randolph being described in "magestic" terms during SL. It never translated. Put a guy in a glorified, televised run and he'll look like the next big thing. Put him in a structure where th3 opposing team is made up of players who actually earned their minutes and suddenly you look like everything you actually are.
But I will always value SL for the early look at the rooks and the returning 2Ys. Waiting until October to see them in preseason is too long.

How did Carter Bryant look? Didn't have time to look at the games. Many here wanted him.

Seemed overwhelmed by the speed of the people out there.
Looked very confident in his shot though, didn’t make much but he was attempting quality shots.

He didnt play in the 2nd game. 1st game was more of the same as in college. Looked amazing but it never really translated to high end production. Everybody in that Spurs/Heat game looked a bit out of sorts it was an ugly game but Bryant's athletisism, fluidity and skill defenitely translated to this level. He should be a good player and was very fortunate to get drafted by the spurs. He really needed a team that would patiently develop him.

At the end of the day it's fun (at times) to watch and gives us something to argue about.

Summer league is fun but the results/stats are completely meaningless. Gotta give the NBA credit, they turned glorified scrimmages into a big deal.

Re: Summer League Thread
Guys like Edgecombe typically stand out in summer league. No defense is played, there's a lot of transition opportunities, athletic guards/wings who handle the ball are going to fill up the stat sheet. 28 pts on 27 shots and 1-7 from 3, 1-3 from the line isn't exactly an efficient scoring game. But he stands out because the raw numbers are big.
How good Edgecombe becomes will likely depend on his ability in the halfcourt, when the game is slower and teams are actually defending the paint and the line and you ain't learning about that in summer league or even the preseason.

I still remember the days on this board where we used to fight hornets fans or who is better between demar and Gerald Henderson! They use to argue he was better than demar because of his play in summer league 2011. I remembered never to trust summer league games after that. Haha good times,

Things can simultaneously be fun and meaningless. This is exactly what these are.
100%. Some of the games can be quite entertaining. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but yeah, sometimes you get to see something fun, for sure.

Totally agree.
That said, the fact VJ was able to get anywhere he wanted in Summer League means he's passed that hurdle. To me that means something. I think it increases the likelihood of him doing it at the NBA level. No guarantee there, but a marginal increase in probability. If he flat out kills all Summer League, the odds ratchet up further. At that point I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to flash that ability in preseason.
There's Oladipo (and dare I say Wade) comps for a reason.

It's certainly better than him not doing it, that's for sure.

Whoever says Bailey will be bad in the NBA sounds foolish to me....Hes too skilled offensively and he has the size/body to hang with any wing.....He will only get better....You might not like his attitude but its hard to see a player with that much talent be a total bust unless he doesn't love basketball but i think he does.

His energy & motor stood out to me, I thought he was more of a smooth assassin type. If he's a IDGF am a get after it type, that takes him to another level

In Raptor Ball I Trust

I think people pushed back on some claiming he can be a superstar. I still like those MPJ comparisons. He can make tough shots. He has his flaws but that won’t stop him from contributing in this league.

He will need to improve his shooting, which is his selling point. Guys with great shooting touch usually come with highs ft%, even MPJ average around 80%. Ace is currently at 69.2%.

Agreed. And we can claim he’s a tough shot maker but that means very little when he’s still inefficient. He’s young, has great size so the potential is there to get better. But I can certainly see why he dropped in the draft. He has a lot to work on.
