Being assured he will have a meaningful spot in the rotation was huge.

In addition to getting a shot at a title, with that NY Knicks exposure, he knows a much larger contract is coming. Just hope he doesn't iHart us.

It is, but the NBAPA decided that it's better for the top tier and near All Star tier guys to make $75m - $40m per and leave the rest of the guys fighting for whatever left.

It's not my money and 5mil is still life changing money, so I don't feel for any of them, but as someone who is pro labor, there is no way the players should have ever agreed to a hard cap.

The number's now been fixed to the full TPMLE

How much would we be able to offer him though? Feels like a one year situation.

Already texting with Brunson. Great leader and hopefully great rotation player, too.

We only have 1 year for certain but he has a PO for the second, so I think it's different than with iHart when we couldn't pay as much as other teams. Still, he'd have to want to stay here, and I hope we also want him to stay here just as much.

I think a lot will depend on how he looks this year and what other teams might offer him next season. He could end up being an I-Hart situation.

In related news, Philly lowballed him. Philly is dealing with apron issues, though. Not entirely their fault. It's just numbers, not personal.

Slightly weird article. They have about 22million left below the second apron and 13 signed players. However, they probably would like to sign Grimes.

I'd seen other articles that said Philly was struggling with their cap space, so I didn't read it closely.

They are reportedly interested in Grimes. I've heard Phily fans aren't loving what the team's approach this off-season.

No, I agree their fans aren't happy. If they want to sign Grimes then maybe they have to go over the second apron to do so. So that's problematic. OTOH, if they don't then not offering Yabusele the same as the Knicks rather than probably a vet min deal looks kind of silly, given the money they would still have available under the second apron.

I still don't see how saving $3.2m of cap helps. But maybe the 76ers will go over the second apron for Grimes. Seems like a terrible move, but who knows?

Long article. What would it take for Knicks to get Grimes? Also the mention of Jrue in Portland made me wonder, what would it take to bring him to NY? Probably makes too much right? But a big defensive PG off the bench would be awesome

I think that's tough. The Knicks can't offer him a realistic salary, and anything they could offer (eg, vet min + $1 for 3 years) would be matched by Philadelphia. They can't sign and trade for him and still remain over the first apron, which would only be possible in some convoluted trade of OG, and the FO probably doesn't want to drop under anyway.

One could possibly trade for him in season, but that works depend on the salary he does sign for.

I suppose if he signed his qualifying offer you could trade for him in season if he wanted to move to the Knicks. The offer is $8.7million. Maybe straight up for Mitch would work? (Substituting in Oubre 8.3mil for Grimes gets allowable on the spotrac trade machine. I don't _think_ adding 8.7mil in salary to the 76ers world change that. But I'm not sure.)

we're losing the plot here. if we're not talking about Yabusele, let's continue the grimes talk in trades and transactions. thanks.

That would be pretty interesting if true. Would allow the Knicks to complete a 14 man roster now, rather than having to wait until 14 days after the start of the season

All veteran minimums are not the same though….I believe…doesn’t it have to be a veteran with less than 10 years?
