It's not my money and 5mil is still life changing money, so I don't feel for any of them, but as someone who is pro labor, there is no way the players should have ever agreed to a hard cap.

We only have 1 year for certain but he has a PO for the second, so I think it's different than with iHart when we couldn't pay as much as other teams. Still, he'd have to want to stay here, and I hope we also want him to stay here just as much.

I'd seen other articles that said Philly was struggling with their cap space, so I didn't read it closely.
They are reportedly interested in Grimes. I've heard Phily fans aren't loving what the team's approach this off-season.

I think that's tough. The Knicks can't offer him a realistic salary, and anything they could offer (eg, vet min + $1 for 3 years) would be matched by Philadelphia. They can't sign and trade for him and still remain over the first apron, which would only be possible in some convoluted trade of OG, and the FO probably doesn't want to drop under anyway.
One could possibly trade for him in season, but that works depend on the salary he does sign for.
I suppose if he signed his qualifying offer you could trade for him in season if he wanted to move to the Knicks. The offer is $8.7million. Maybe straight up for Mitch would work? (Substituting in Oubre 8.3mil for Grimes gets allowable on the spotrac trade machine. I don't _think_ adding 8.7mil in salary to the 76ers world change that. But I'm not sure.)
