Realistic Wish List???
I was window shopping across the league trying to see which players on other teams would be the best upgrades for the Blazers. In the interest of a realistic discussion, I propose we try to keep this wish list... REALISTIC. No Wemby or Luka.
Assuming that Deni, Camara, Clingon and Yang are off limits, for now...
Who would be the best players to upgrade this roster?
I saw some posts about Josh Giddey
I started looking at Austin Reeves

Re: Realistic Wish List???
Giddy would be nice next to Deni, but I suspect the Bulls will figure something out with him.
Kispert seems like a really solid target given the Blazers needs and who’s available.

sorry....I just can't agree with that
Blazers still have Grant and he's better than Kispert, by quite a bit actually
you know how people are always complaining about Grant's rebounding? Newsflash: Grant's career rebounding rate is 7.7%; Kispert's is 5.9%
Grant is a better passer too. And Grant gets to the FT line. His career FT Rate is a robust 38.3%; Kispert's is an anemic 16.1%
Grant is a much better and more versatile defender. Kispert is Simons-level-bad as a defender. Washington was one of the worst defensive teams last season and Kispert was their worst defender.
Kispert one-dimensional with terrible defense. And his one-dimension, three point shooting, is a long ways from elite. Over the last 2 seasons he shot 37.5% on threes. That's above average but it's sure not exceptional or enough to covet. Last season, out of 174 qualified players (by attempts) Kispert ranked 105th. Grant ranked 102nd
and Kispert has 3 years left on his deal. If he was on the team next season, the forward rotation would be Deni-Camara-Grant-Thybulle-Kispert. Portland can do better

Agreed. Kispert is a terrible idea. I can understand why people are championing him in all the forums.

Re: Realistic Wish List???
Honestly?
I don’t really have any from other teams.
Things on my small wish list: Scoot to continue to take steps toward being a #3 pick, and force Jrue to the bench. For Sharpe to take the next step of consistency and upping his defense. For Clingan to develop some touch around the basket. For Camara to continue to add dimension to his offense. For Deni to add some offensive wrinkles to compliment his power game. For the team to get sold to a great owner that knows how to keep the hands-off balance. For Grant to discover that a chill role for him as a 3&D off the bench actually matches his chill personality. For Yang to surprise everyone and be a 7’ Sengun. For Cronin and Billups to get fired and replaced by better options.
But mostly, for everyone to stay healthy for a whole season—especially the guards.

I'd pass on Giddey for Portland. His skillset and Deni's have too much overlap imo.DusterBuster wrote:Giddy would be nice next to Deni, but I suspect the Bulls will figure something out with him.

I’m not nearly that invested Kispert to debate his merits. His contract expires with Grant and Jrue and his per year is pretty average for bench guys these days (yeesh), so I don’t see it being a big deal, but I’ll get to the contract bit a little later… I’m also not really sure about the “Portland can do better” part - at least as far as this summer is concerned.
But I agree the Blazers are pretty focused on not taking on much salary right now. It was reported by Marang they did have offers for Ayton on the table, but all of them required taking back salaries and they opted instead to go the buyout route and open the MLE, so there was a reason for that.
Maybe Wizards would consider taking Grant? I’m pretty unclear what that team is doing right now. Probably would still require the Blazers giving up a FRP since whatever filler the Wiz would throw in there would be expiring.
Anyway, outside of Kispert, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cronin just sits on his hands for the summer and filled out the “last” (he rarely carries a full 15 man roster, usually only 14) with a 2-way guy who competes with other 2-way guys in camp to get that spot.

LOL, sorry, I was trying to be a little funny. Huerter is an interesting option as depth behind Shae.
In the opening post, I was suggesting the parameters were everyone was available to trade except Deni, Camara, Clingon and Yang.
So, if thr Blazers were to put Scoot or Shaedon up on the block, combined with Time lord or Grant for salary filler, could they get a player that balances out this roster better?

I really like Trey Murphy. Would Shaedon be enough of a center piece in a package to get him?

Re: Realistic Wish List???
I kinda like the idea of Lauri Markannen if the main cost is Jerami Grant. He can really shoot and attack close outs. He had an off year last season but looked fantastic for a couple of years prior to that. Being on a crappy team like Utah (or Portland for that matter) can hurt percentages

He would be perfect for what we are tying to do. Athletic, defensive minded guy with a motor. Not that skilled though.oldfishermen wrote:Tari Eason?
Like Whitmore, he is getting the squeeze with KD and Finney-Smith in Houston. I have no idea what we could offer for him though that they might want.

Not sure. To me Josh is a true PG. Deni is a secondary facilitator and downhill attacker.
Josh has a career assist rate above 30%. Deni's best was last year at 19.9 and is at 14.7 for his career.
I brought up Giddey as a pipe dream - dont think there is a chance CHI lets him leave. They are just playing hardball with the contract since there are no cap space teams.
