Does Mose have any pre- existing relationship with Prunty?
Chemistry is crucial for this….great hire(s) but a little concerning to have a HC-in waiting appointed new Lead Assistant.

It is being reported by local news channels that we got him. Is that true?

This isn't going to be coach Jamahl Mosley's first time working with Prunty as they spent three years together as assistant coaches for the Cleveland Cavaliers starting in 2010.

We have a replacement in waiting now if needed. Seems like a positive. Mose just needs to take his own advice and focus on what he can do.

Feels like they needed to get some support in for Mosley. Probably a make or break for him this year. Seems like it should be like football an offensive and defensive coordinator.
It was obviously the scheme. No point guard and watching two players attempt to drive to the basket every possession just isn’t conducive to getting guys open.
It's more nuanced than just "did KCP get open shots or not?" because he actually did get just as many compared to his Denver days with Jokic.
Last two years combined with Denver
2.1 wide open 3PT attempts per game - made 44.8%
1.7 open 3PT attempts per game - made 36.5%
3.8 total wide open/open per game
Last year with Orlando
2.0 wide open 3PT attempts per game - made 39.1%
1.8 open 3PT attempts per game - made 35.0%
3.8 total wide open/open per game
So the total attempts open and wide open are legit the exact same as the previous two years. He just shot worse. So what gives?
The lack of ball movement and touches comparatively speaking.
Front court touches
25.1 in Denver
20.2 in Orlando
Miles traveled per game on offense
1.14 per game in Denver
1.11 per game in Orlando
So even though the number of open and wide open shot attempts is static, the decrease in actually touching the ball in the general flow of the offense and also moving around offensively were probably a pretty big mental block for a guy like KCP.

Right.
Orlando was last in pace and total possessions in the entire league last season. KCP is a rhythm shooter that does not handle the ball.
When Suggs went out for the second half of the season it was basically just Paolo and Franz sharing the load of possessions in the half court.
The system became entirely predictable because KCP does nothing with the ball in his hands and Paolo and Franz need the ball to do anything. They aren’t good enough off ball offensively to keep defenses honest and they aren’t reliable enough from outside for that first part to not be a big deal. Now with Bane that might change entirely if he can do enough on ball and with Suggs in the mix.
That’s why I said all last season it isn’t about necessarily getting better shooters. It’s about the flow of the offense and creation for those shots to be a more consistent option.

If KCP goes back to shooting 40% this year, then it should be clear that its the scheme.
Scheme schmeme, he was clanking wide open shots.

We needed to change our head coach or offensive coordinator. Latter was propably better option, but it should be yellow card for Mosley.
Prunty and Shammgod are much needed addition.
I wonder if Prunty could be our next head coach if Mosley doesnt deliver

Why are people so low on Mosley? I think he’s pretty great at what he does and obviously his staff is being upgraded around him to help in areas he’s not so great at right now. Mosley has the things you can’t teach that are important to coaching, with the correct staff he’ll be fine .

His decision making to not play Anthony Black in favor of Gary Harris, Markelle Fultz and Joe Ingles in the playoff series against the Cavs!
Better yet, plays and starts KCP all season when he doesn't deserve it!
Those moments lead me to believe he can't make adjustments:D

It's less about KCP. He made 1.5 threes a game vs 1.6 threes his prior year in Denver. Its the other guys. Suggs at 6.9 attempts per game, but the excuse here is he played a lot while Franz and Paolo were out, and was taking more off the dribble.
Franz and Paolo both at 5.9 attempts per game. It seemed like Franz got a lot of catch and shoot, though i haven't checked the stats....think this is all on Franz. He just has to get better.
Paolo if he could shoot 38% seems like it would really open his game, but even in the low to mid 30s is going to be helpful. He takes some bad shots in general, i think this just is going to improve as he continues to develop and reduce low % shots and get that TS% up.
Personally I think the Magic are going to get into the 20ish range this year on offense and three point shooting. Of course i am assuming Franz, Paolo, and Suggs are busting their humps this summer with shooting coaches and watching film.
They do need some fresh ideas on offense for when the iso and bully ball goes stale.

The bottom line is that I would love to see an offense where Paolo is being utilized more off-ball, setting screens, and catch and shoot from everywhere on the floor. He isn’t involved enough off-ball. Hes non existent if he doesn’t have the ball in his hands driving downhill.
Franz needs to be able to as well in order to become a real 3-level scorer. Hes like a 2.5 level scorer right now if he isn’t able to shoot off the dribble or off the catch consistently.
Suggs needs to get back to shooting where he was. I think he will benefit the most from Bane. Opposing teams best defenders now have to choose between Franz, Bane, and Suggs in the perimeter.

I perceive Paolo would like that as well. I wish we used him more like Jokic with him as a screen setter, catching at the nail, and seeing 4 v 3 scenarios and play make from that position. He’s good enough and a mismatch most games to punish teams from that spot. It requires a Jamal Murray level pick n roll player and wing shooting. I think Bane should be able to fill that role to some extent. We ran those kind of plays a lot for Paolo to start the season and he was really productive. It kind of fell off when he came back from injury.

I'm not down on Mosley at all...especially, as you said, for the things you can't teach. He's a leader and a motivator and a good defensive coach. Hopefully, he's strong enough to manage strong assistants - like the best head coaches do, and be the unquestioned decision-maker who empowers his staff to generate ideas but never concedes his power (while at the same time remaining a beloved ally-tricky). But there is always a cloud over a coach when his head assistant coach is a head coach-wannabe or a guy who some (including himself) feel has been passed over or is due for his shot. Ironically, Carlisle was said to have been threatened by Mosely's relationship with the players in DAL. Carlisle might be the best X's and O's guy in the NBA but, at this level, it's also a popularity contest-particularly with the empowered stars of the league, that can determine your fate. Carlisle actually designated Mose as his go-between with the players because he recognized he was losing them. Carlisle also felt that Mose was "politicking" for a HC job and actually gave good references, in part because he didnt want him taking his job. This is all from Tim McMahon's book about Luka, The Wonderboy. McMahon is one of the most plugged-in beat guys in the NBA, imo, especially with the Cuban-era Mavs.

I might be wrong but i personally believe if we land some free agent and strike T-Mac like gold again it will be because of Mosley. I watch him interact with the young up and coming guys on other NBA teams when we play against them, if you watch Mosley you’ll see it also the young my guys talking to OUR coach, joking with OUR coach . It just looks different with Mosley, IDK maybe it happens all around the league every night in other games and I don’t see it. But when I see Mosley being himself, standing up for his guys, believing in his guys, dapping up his new guy’s I don’t worry about this X’s & O’s with Paolo and Franz leading the way this should be an offensive minded assistant coaches dream job. I’ll take the guy leading my team that can connect with these star athletes on a human personal level.

This is the problem when you only have 2 go to guys who can generate offense. Or at least thats what the scouting report said.
I am starting to get hopeful that we are flipping the switch but going to concede we will likely be off to a rough start first 20 games as they dust off having an NBA offense.
Outside of all this, you are saying what I have been saying about Paolo since his rookie season. The game plan is literally USG % = Paolo = FB size = run the game like its a foosball set and pound down the lane. Which, works, in terms of grinding games out. Then you have Franz who effectively can do the same thing.
Lastly, for both of these guys to take a major leap and us make a championship run we need them to be league average 3-ball on top of what you have said. If this can be accomplished we can be a 60+ win team in the east. IMHO.

Disagree. The point of a wing-hub offense is that creation doesn't have to start with a traditional floor general. It flows through versatile forwards like Paolo and Franz, who draw help, collapse defenses, and make the right reads. You don’t need them running floppy sets or high pick and rolls every possession. You need them attacking mismatches, generating closeouts, and punishing rotations with shooters around them. That is modern offense...initiation by committee, not heliocentric guard play.

You’re right.
Whatever they are currently doing is working very well.
Basement dwelling offense for the last 10 years. It hasn’t been better the last 4 seasons.
Maybe you are wrong? Nobody cares how you are choosing to interpret things.
Have you even stopped to consider that the entire reason this thread even exists is because what they’ve been doing simply doesn’t work?

The only time the offense flowed last year was when PB was out and Franz ran the point. Small sample size alert. But this "wing-hub offense" was a total abortion in regular season. Partially explained by the abject failure of the surrounding cast to score. But there was enough evidence during the Franz-only initiator phase to suggest things could be a lot better with off-ball movement and ball movement.
In the playoffs it's different. I think the Magic is more suited as a postseason team if they can hit jumpers.
