DEN should still do the trade. Dump Saric directly for nothing is still a good deal.

Not sure why Sacramento effectively took Dario Šarić for free, he has been cooked for a while.

An inexplicable move.

Kangz are so back?
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Save a small amount of money I would assume. Pocket change to the owners, but you don't get that rich by not hoarding every dollar you can.

Has a team ever forced a guy to play and it worked out for them? lol i wouldn’t even trust him on the court if im a contender. His heart and mental is already in another country.

I feel the same way, and I'm a Denver fan. Not letting a guy play on another team in the NBA? Of course not. But if he wants to go home on the other side of the world, a completely different league that has nothing to do with the NBA? Man, just let him go. Make him give up his entire salary and hold his rights for as long as his contract ran, of course. But just let the guy go.

I'm not sure the Nuggets have much recourse here, but it's been a while since I checked the CBA on this. Certainly if Val just retired they'd have no power to do anything.

He could retire...but he can't play in Europe after doing so.

I feel like this ends with Jonas voiding his contract or giving up a lot of the owed money. I can’t see Denver forcing him to stay and it would just play out horribly if that’s the direction it went

Denver is just posturing. They totally wanted to dump Saric for free and Val def wants all the sexy Greek women he can handle.

From where things stand, they have the option to open the full MLE and split it between bought out Vuc and Beal, that'll put them in top tier contender territory.

Wouldn't hold my breath on a Vuc buyout.
Beal not going to Denver either.

Question is if they let Val go does his contract counts on their books for the season against cap. I think so. It is a reason why Sacramento did a trade, to clear $5M of the cap through trade (Val for Saric). They used it to sign Schroder. They could have $10M of Vals contract in pocket, but on books against their cap. They didn't want money clearing move they wanted to improve their team.

The same with Denver, they don't want to save $10M they want backup C.

If he forfeits his salary, for all intents and purposes, his contract will be off the books.

Wouldn't count it out, he can give up 10M and get them from DEN.

Yes. from the article:
Work a buyout with the Toronto Raptors. In this scenario, Vezenkov would give back some or all of his $6.6 million contract for the 2024-25 season to become a free agent. He would still need to clear waivers upon a buyout, as listed above.

Here is Raptors cap sheet from 24/25 season, scroll down to dead money, you'll see Vezenkov there listed as 0

So, how this affects their ability to sign FAs, max they can offer in a deal, tax money...
