Also Wemby is the best 3 & D C in the league by a landslide. A healthy KP and if Chet makes another jump (which usually happens in a 3rd szn breakout), without another freak accident, is in the mix as well. I expect Turner’s numbers do go down without the playmaking of Hali and the pacer’s pace/system.

Giannis has way more gravity than Hali does that’s why every player has career numbers playing with him. Players like turner are going to be wide open as teams double and triple team Giannis they just need to make open shots and none of wemby Chet KP are playing with Giannis I expect Turners shooting numbers to improve playing with Giannis too

You have a fair point. We shall see if Turner flourishes going from Pacer Ball to a heliocentric Point Center in Giannis, now that the bucks backcourt is depleted with no competent play making there.

This may come to a surprise for some Bucks posters here, but I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Giannis in another finals. That 2021 run was epic and I was on board way before he hyperextended his knee. Was crazy to me to see him back so soon. This much loyalty to a franchise should be rewarded by their front office.

I respect that the Bucks organization realizes the east is open and decided to push their chips forward. They have Giannis, Turner, Portis, Trent jr., Prince, etc. It's a good squad, but missing a couple of pieces. Maybe Kuzma will turn it around, but his 3s need to be limited.

They need a PG and a good role player or 2 and I can see them making it out of the East. Cavs and Knicks will be the only threat.

The magic will be better if healthy. Decent chance we are better this year too with Ivey & Stewart both healthy.

Turner is a nice player and that contract is good value, but he averages less than 7 rebounds a game for his career, and he is not going to be getting as many open looks with the Bucks as he was getting playing with Haliburton. Their guard rotation is atrocious. Add to that that Doc is coach, and they aren't really a contender.

idk man, good luck to the bucks if i’m wrong i’ll come back and admit it. I can’t get excited about what is essentially 50M a year for Myles Turner.

We got the best 3 and D C in the league by changing the shape of a $110m+ salary hole in our roster. Didn't have to give up any picks, got the best FA of the year. Hell, he's the greatest external FA signing in franchise history.

I could have lived with the gap year thing like we did in 23, but the Bucks want to try to win every year. If we'd just waited out Dame this year and traded him next offseason, we'd only be doing it for a good player on a bloated contract anyway. This is a year early and we got a guy who fits.

It won't be the last move, it's an improvement though. I wouldn't have even bothered posting on the GB but I just found the stuff in this thread so very funny. The Bucks had 7 of their own free agents they needed to sign with stuff all money and had to replace our starting C who is moving home to semi-retirement. It's been an amazing start to the offseason given the team was just Giannis and AJ Green a week ago.

Still waiting on someone to explain how this qualifies as desperate.

It's a complicated issue with Indiana. Up until 2014, 25% of their TV revenue was siphoned off for years by the Spirit of St. Louis ABA deal. The NBA finally closed that chapter with the Silnas, allowing the Nets, Nuggets and Spurs to receive full TV revenue. Even before Mel Simon died (leaving Herb as the sole owner), they never paid the tax. I personally believe they would have if Haliburton didn't get hurt.

He'll get a ton of open looks playing off of Giannis.

Giannis will be why Myles Turner becomes an all-star for the first time in his career. Once it happens, Myles needs to he flipped for assets.

I don't believe the Magic or Pistons are ready to win the east. Considering the amount of double teams, and how defenses collapse when Giannis drives, I think Turner will get plenty of looks.

Turner was 15th in the NBA in wide open 3 point looks this season. He was wide open on 3.9 out of his 5.5 attempts per game. Wide open being defined as closest defender is over 6 feet away. Just being open (4-6 feet) Myles averaged 1.4 looks per game. He was either WIDE OPEN or OPEN on 5.3 out of 5.5 attempts per game.

I'm not sure how it gets better than that. You're being overly simplistic (and to be fair to you, you're not alone). With a basic Giannis > Haliburton take. Even though Giannis draws more attention, Haliburton is a better passer. Meaning his timing and spotting of open players is just better. Besides that the entire Pacers offense was geared towards finding the open man. It's what they did.

If you think the presence of Giannis is going to net Myles open or wide open on more than 5.3 out of every 5.5 shots, more power to you. But I don't see any room to really go up. Just down. I already covered how Myles has been entirely more efficient since Tyrese got here. I think the best case scenario is Myles stays who he is. Worst case, he becomes who he was before Tyrese got to Indiana.

Hey, if i’m wrong come back and quote the post, I just think myles turner has to be like a legitimate star to make a move this desperate

The desperation is you now have Turner effectively taking up over $50M in cap in 2027-28 and 2028-29 between him and Lillard, then $22.5M for Lillard in 2029-30, where before you had no salary in those years, and could obviously get more value than just Turner for $50M in cap space

But you risk Giannis leaving in the meantime, hence desperation. I don't blame them. You have a top 5 player. And you hardly ever get $1 for $1 trading a guy like that. But it's probably too late

The Middleton trade was probably the death blow. They added Kuzma's salary where Middleton would have expired after this year. And they gave up a 1st to do that, when Kuzma is basically a minimum salary player. And they haven't hit on any picks recently. It's just not happening

The real problem with the Turner signing, is they let Lopez go to do it. Turner is an upgrade, but not much, and they didn't have to cut Lillard to keep Lopez. Between that and keeping Middleton, the 1st, and cap space, they would have had a lot of ammo to stock up in 2026 with either a healthy Lillard + cap space, or he leaves or you waive him, and can sign way more than just Turner. Then trade Giannis during the 2026 season if you had to. But Kuzma's deal really hurt the 2026 option, so they went with this

I'm not sure why people think it's a desperation move, Giannis is in his prime, the East is open, Turner is an upgrade and was a part of two deep playoffs runs. I think they should be happy. They're a top 4 team (now with Boston and Indiana out of the picture). They're legit ECF material.
I was personally disappointed when the Pacers didn't re-sign Turner, but I get why they didn't. The owner doesn't have a lot of $$ and it's a dead year.

Dame was dead 54M salary this year, and for his production he was at least 30M overpaid next year, for the next 2 years, they gained 30M in cap in each year, including cap space to target FA this year.
Bucks have been tax payers for 4 years, and their cap was unsustainable for a small market team.
They saved 100s of millions of cap/tax in the next 2 years, refreshed their floor spacing center in a younger version, didn't use their future draft capital, next year they'll have MLE, BAE and S&T of Kuzma's contract.
Yes, it was a very costly move, but it was the best move that didn't include trading away Giannis.

To add, we also signed all our guys. KPJ, Portis, GTJ, Rollins, Sims. Great offseason from where we started.

Agreed about the East, but that doesn't mean the Bucks are now contenders lol. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this, but I hate this roster minus Giannis.

its an option!

after this offseason the entirety of our much younger deeper modern roster now has bird rights.

this year we actually get to unleash giannis but also.....DEVELOP some guys and potentially REHAB others. wow what a concept it will be to play modern fast young athletic basketball with lots of people moving, shooting, and guarding alongside giannis instead of standing still watching dame take turns with giannis except for when khris felt good enough to play an old gimpy standstill 3rd banana in that awful outdated system we along with an ancient stationary brook lopez had to watch.

next offseason we'll have a very moveable expiring kuzma with 3 firsts and multiple swaps to deal. add most likely a full NTP MLE. a total of 75 million in very moveable even valuable contracts with portis and turners deals as well as the kuzma expring.

by stretching dame we hurt our ability to do what exactly?

is it our owners money people are worried about? do they think we should have punted two full seasons with dame to save peanuts in years 3-5? punt this season for sure and then try for a hail mary pass move next year with dames freaking 60 million expring that we would have probably had to attach picks just to get off of?

i cant understand how anybody doesnt see this as a home run for us. like literally a total freaking home run. our goal is to win a title. we have a better shot this year as constructed then we did either of the last two. no more investment in old hurt overpaid used to bes. should be exciting.

---------------------

and if it all fails and giannis demands out(which at this point is unlikely for forever)... then turner goes out in a different move. we get even more picks. who cares about the stretch then either. it helps us get to a salary floor. only thing we give up is being able to absorb bad money and 2nd rounders from teams trying to dump cash. boo freaking hoo

Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard did a press conference today, basically said the Pacers were willing to go deep into the tax to keep Myles. That he felt like they were progressing towards a deal, then out of nowhere he saw Shams tweet saying Myles signed with the Bucks.

They were never given the option to match it. He defended Myles right to make that decision, but very much implied the Pacers would have paid it.

Sounds to me like maybe Myles wanted a change of scenery, and the Bucks were the only option. So he took it

I'm good with it as a fan, I am hoping we suck this year. So losing Myles is a whatever.

Dybantsa or bust here. Give Tyrese a shot at a true star running mate when he comes back.

See to me it sounded like the PR of spin of "We low balled him because we didn't think he'd get a higher offer. He got pissed at us because of that and then took the better offer the moment it came in"
