Sucks. If Schroeder went to a team with cap space we're in a much better spot to get a trade exception for him. I'm assuming Sacramento didn't want to use their own trade exception to acquire him. Just the luck of the draw.

Wtf

Does he fit into our TPE we'd get? I would not be cool with dealing Stew for him though

I am not specifically saying you are wrong but I haven't seen anything that clarifies what the Schroder S&T deal looks like. Did I miss something?

Schroder is getting paid- that's his agency is reporting.

Whether or not that's a sign and trade or a regular signing means little to them. It's still not clear what exactly is happening here.

$21,481,481 is what Vucevic makes and the Pistons could take back $22.6 million in a sign-and-trade for Scroeder.

The Bulls would likely have to be willing to give up Vucevic for Monk or for nothing at all to make this deal work... and of course we'd have to actually want to take him on.

It would not fit into any TPE we might receive.

Kings only had interest in a S&T deal as a way for them to expand it to get Kuminga.

The Kuminga talks deteriorated, so they are just gonna keep Monk and sign Schroeder outright (MLE?).

We get nothing.

That is correct, but he could come back immediately in a 3 way trade.

Here's a breakdown of the rules:
For outgoing salaries up to $7.5 million: A team can take back double the outgoing salary plus $250,000.
For outgoing salaries between $7.5 million and $29 million: A team can take back the outgoing salary plus $7.5 million.
For outgoing salaries above $29 million: A team can take back 125% of the outgoing salary plus $250,000.
These rules allow teams under the luxury tax to potentially acquire players with significantly higher salaries than what they are sending out, giving them more options in the trade market.

This Weinbach character is an idiot. We’re going to trade locked up, reasonable price Stewart for Vooch? No chance in hell.

It’s possible this will be confirmed soon but it has not been yet. All we have in terms of definitive reporting is the release by Schroder’s agency. And they are just announcing they helped get Schroder a bag.

Maybe it's just me but I'm relieved that this wasn't a sign and trade since all the rumors were saying that the Pistons wanted Monk. I would have liked the extra cap flexibility but it didn't sound like that was Langdon's plan anyway so I consider this a bullet dodged.

If it’s a choice between nothing and Monk I believe I’d go with nothing.

Certainly given our other moves.

Yep agreed, committing $20m/yr the next 3 years (not looking at team/player options offhand) for a redundant player would have been a poor shortsighted move.

If he's a flippable asset I think I might be receptive to it. But if he were the Kings would have traded him and got something by now. There's no market for Malik Monk.

It's just dumb speculation for engagement-farming purposes from an unreliable Twitter source who likes to pretend that he's on the inside. He broke entirely speculative "news" about Schroder on the basis of zero substantive evidence because he wanted to be first on the scene in his efforts toward establishing himself as a news source.

All he says here is that the Pistons are "an intriguing team that could emerge" as such a suitor; he words it as if he knows something without outright claiming that he knows something. Needless to say, it's hogwash; the Pistons will not be trading Stewart for a washed-up, 35-year-old Vucevic.

The overall moral of this story is that Weinbach sucks as a source and nobody should listen to him.

The point isn’t to get something for monk. The point is to have some salary on the books to use in a trade. He wouldn’t be the “value” part. We aren’t going to be under the cap again, so we need some moveable contracts.
