I'm betting for us the holdup is Brad trying to find some place to re-route Simons too. I don't he steps one foot in Boston.

I think maybe Simons can't be traded for 30 days?

Could well be. I just heard a local reporter claim it on the radio.

No that’s only true if the trade becomes official which it isn’t yet

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying but a PE firm caring ONLY about the bottom line isn’t necessarily a bad thing for a sports team.

The Celtics aren’t the Red Sox where the stadium will sell out regardless of how the team is playing. If this team turn mediocre and it’s clear that it’s not just a rebuild and is due to crappy owners, fans won’t go, the local media will kill them, and fans will boo. That’s not going to make for a profitable enterprise.

When John Carroll was the interim head coach I remember a game I went to in college where there had to be like 4,000 people and they were all rooting against the Celtics. Celtics always have a risk of dropping to 4th in the Boston sports pecking order. Depends on how garbage this new ownership is but Chisholm better not be anything like Paul Gaston.

Yeah those were dark days.

Even from a money standpoint, you can’t win in the NBA without stars, and the Celtics aren’t going to be a money maker without winning.

The thing that is unclear is how the second apron is going to affect team like the Clippers. It might work more like a hard cap not so much from a money stand point but from a competitive disadvantage standpoint…

It’s kinda hard to predict how many teams are going to not care about being over the second apron.

Meanwhile we're hearing rumors of the C's going all the way down under the luxury tax for these next 2 years.

Reported trades that have not yet been made official:

BOS-POR: Holiday for Simons
ATL-BOS-BKN: Porzingis for Mann, Niang
BKN-DEN: Johnson for Porter Jr
DEN-SAC: Saric for Valanciunas
DET-MIA: Fontecchio for Robinson (S&T)

The trades involving the Nets are a bit more complicated, because they'll be renouncing free agents to clear cap space before the trades.

The other deals could be in process. There's always a chance something is being held to expand a deal. We'll see!

I'm betting for us the holdup is Brad trying to find some place to re-route Simons too. I don't he steps one foot in Boston.

There's 5 trades involving 8 teams that haven't been made official. I wouldn't assume that the holdup is Brad trying to find somewhere to re-route Simons to. It could be be a lot of different reasons.

It could be the situation with Valanciunas trying to leave the NBA for Europe.

It could be that some of the execs for these NBA teams were taking some time off to relax over the holiday weekend..

Also, the Blazers traded for Jrue a couple years ago, knowing they were not going to keep him. They didn't know yet where they were going to re-route Jrue to, but they didn't let that holdup the trade they made sending Dame to the Bucks. There's many other examples like this as well..

I don't think there's any restriction on when Simons can be traded. The restriction is on when he can be aggregated. Ignoring the fact that it'd put us over the 2nd apron, but Simons/Niang make a combined $35M or so next year and normally you'd be able to package the 2 of them for a guy making $38M with normal salary matching rules (again, pending apron rules and all that). I think it's 30 days after you acquire someone though that you can't aggregate them like that though. So while we could still trade the two of them for one player, we can't aggregate salaries in the trade matching math. All of the players we acquire would have to be "matched" with just one of them. And same would apply if you tried to aggregate either of them with anyone else on the roster, even someone not newly acquired.

I don't think that would really be an issue with the type of trades we'd probably make with them, if any.

If that becomes effective once official, that's pretty much the same result.

Well regarding Beal, he probably wants 14mill MLE from future team and based on preagreed new team salary he will than take buyout. Thats why the duscussions.

Biston can only offer 5mill tax payer mle right? Not enough.

Maybe they wait for Beal what happens, because if Boston xan ger him than Simmons can be traded.

If they sign a player to the TMLE, they are also hardcapped at the second apron. They are currently a bit over it, though their trades are not finalized so presumably they could expand those trades to ship Niang or Simons elsewhere and get under.
I don’t see them using the TMLE this year.
I dont see Beal or Lilliard here.

This is probably a comparable Simons trade if there is one.

Wow.
Jazz able to get positive value for Collins.
Miami trying stuff.
Change of scenery and playing next to Zubac might help Collins

They already have a bunch of wings and outside of Zubac their bigman rotation kinda sucks.

The Jazz generally wanted to clear Collins salary, do Love and/or Anderson get bought out or waived?
