I do think Grimes is a solid 2 way player though. Knicks board is split on whether Thibs misused him and hurt his confidence or he had his chances and flubbed it. Seems like he might be a late bloomer who's finally in the right place.

I think Grimes is a classic trap.

Good player but if you pay him 20M +, you messed up lol. He would be the best option to start at SG but I don’t think I’m willing to pay him that amount of money.

Morey is doing the right thing by playing hardball with him. Don’t pull a Bobby/Masai and overbid for a player who nobody else is bidding for.

You do not judge a player on how they do when your team is tanking. Now let's see how he contributes to the team when theyre trying to win meaningful games to start the year.

Grimes knows if he takes the qualifying offer that his value will go down since he won't get a chance to chuck up shots. Philly is actually really deep at the the guard spots so I can see him struggle to even get enough minutes to show out.

This isn’t a one way street. You guys are saying he would accept coming off the bench for this team when there hasn’t been any evidence for that.

This doesnt have to be that complicated, do you really think RJ would accept coming off the bench to let Jakobe or Ochai start for defensive reasons for a team he knows doesn’t really care about him in the long term? Is this a hot take now?

You’re the one who brought up the fact he’s unwilling to take a bench role. That’s what Canada_dry is referring to. Where did you hear this from?

Do you think he’s willing to come off the bench for Jakobe or Ochai? Yes or no?

Yes.

Do you think RJ is going to throw a fit and refuse to show up to work if he is made a 6th man? Unless you can provide us with some sort of quote or article of RJ saying he refuses to do so, you are just making **** up and throwing it at the wall.

We've seen guys like Serge Ibaka, who was a better and more accomplished player than RJ, take on a bench role -- yet you think RJ is going to refuse?

Your entire argument is just flawed. You think RJ is horrible and some negative value player, but in the next breathe he is to good to take a bench role? But Whitmore is some positive value underrated player who is better, yet he will take a bench role?

It just doesn't add up man. That is why people keep coming back to it. When you make claims like this, it is your responsibility to provide some sort of evidence. If you make claims, you don't just get to make claims and then force everyone else to prove you wrong

Serge Ibaka was PAID and was on a championship caliber team. Coming off the bench so JV or Gasol can play their natural position at the 5 when you’ve been a PF your whole career isn’t an issue.

Comparing that to asking a 25 year old to come off the bench for Ochai or Jakobe on a middling team doesn’t sound nuts to you?

I’ve also never said Whitmore is better than RJ, idk why you’re so sensitive about that. I only said I rather have Whitmore at 4M than have RJ at 30M. That isn’t a hard concept to comprehend.

And the only real success he has on his resume is sweeping us like 10 years ago sadly lol.

And that was because of John Wall. Beal is the most over-hyped and ultimately underwhelming player of his generation.

Ibaka was sent to the bench so Siakam and OG could start my guy  We asked a 29 year old DPOY caliber player to come off the bench for a 24 year old Siakam or 21 year old Anunoby. Both of whom were viewed about the same as Ochai or Jakobe are now.

In fact, game 1 of the year Ibaka was benched and Siakam/JV started at the 4/5 position despite (at that time) Ibaka being the most accomplished of the bunch, and he likely internally felt like he was the best of the 3. Ibaka was 29 years old, with 2 years left on his deal, who likely thought he had 1 more payday possibly left in him after 2020, who took the bench role and didn't complain for a second.

I’ve also never said Whitmore is better than RJ, idk why you’re so sensitive about that. I only said I rather have Whitmore at 4M than have RJ at 30M. That isn’t a hard concept to comprehend.

Sure, and other people have tried to point out that saving $25M or whatever on that literally doesn't mean we can spend $25M elsewhere. They both have 2 years remaining, so essentially a straight RJ for Whitmore swap just means we end up with Whitmore instead of RJ and really mininal flexibility to do anything else with those "savings".

So saying you would prefer Whitmore > RJ is saying you think Whitmore is better, because there is no logical cap reasons to make that trade with the situation we are in cap wise. It isn't like we can get Whitmore + a different $25M player instead of RJ. That isn't how the cap works

The RJ hate is just insane and unfounded, or maybe it is the Whitmore love that is insane. For you - it appears to be a bit of both. Again - if you wanna make these "RJ wont come off the bench" claims, you should have some evidence when people push back.

Once again, stop avoiding the question. You stated that RJ is unwilling to take a bench role. Where did you hear that? But I’ll save you and won’t continue to push it because I know you made it up.

BI, IQ, SB and JP in the starting lineup with RJ. Not a lot of shots for him. On the bench or starting, he should still get around 30 minutes a night. I also haven’t heard anything bad about RJ in regards to how he is as a teammate. In fact, only heard good things. So there is nothing in his past that seems to suggest he would refuse a bench role.

I don’t care if you’re attached to mediocre players. Pointing out that RJ Barrett has been net negative for 90% of his career isn’t hating, that’s just objectively true. Pointing out that he gets paid like a high impact starter while doing the opposite of that is an objective truth. Pointing out that he does not have positive value as a trade chip around the league is an objective truth.

I don’t care even care for Whitmore like that on this team. I just think it was a good low risk high reward move for the Wizards to get him. It’s not that big of a deal.

For sure, hope he takes that deal with another team though. VJ is going to eat his minutes and ruin his potential pay day next year.

Being the 66th highest contract in the league, sandwiched in between Andrew Wiggins, Devin Vassell, and Afernee Simons, is hardly "Paid like a high impact starter".

Barrett is about to go into a year where he is back in the role he thrived in when he first got here. You know, when he put up 22/6/4 on 62TS%. But hey - we also could have Whitmore throwing up 18 inefficient shots a night with 4 passes. That might be better.

FWIW - I am fine with trading Barrett. People disagreeing with you are not "attached to mediocre players". Attack the argument, not the person.

Caleb Houstan is a UFA and is 6'8 and can shoot it over 40% from three and we had interest in drafting him. I don't know about cap situations completely but they can waive Battle or Castleton to get him. He is still only 22 so he is bigger and two years younger than Battle and could be a crowd favorite.

Listing overpaid players with minimal impact doesn’t exactly make your statement that effective. Bringing up numbers on what he did on a tanking team. That’s cute.

I don’t care for volume numbers, I care about impact and he doesn’t provide that for the amount of money he gets.

I don’t care to go back and forth on a player we have no intentions on keeping long term.

Grimes has always been a decent player. He got moved after Knicks had Bridges and OG and was no longer part of Thibs rotation.

He was a pretty good player and great 3pt shooter back in college.

Poor Norm, can’t seem to find a home even when playing very efficient basketball.

The market for score first no defence SG’s is brutal.
