CMB actually has a higher standing reach (half inch) and tested better on all athletic drills except for max vertical (Randle one inch higher). CMB also has the potential to be a more efficient player if comparing college numbers.
The combine information is quite interesting. The eye-test makes Randle look more explosive to me but maybe that was more a function of position with CMB playing the 5. I think CMB was already more efficient given their TS% (.624 vs .567).
I’m pretty high on CMB given the role he will come into. There will be very little pressure on his offense—basically set screens and be an efficient finisher like Poeltl. I also think his defensive skills should translate well once he gets up to NBA speed. For his agility he would do well to shed any extra weight, which hopefully will happen with a higher level of training.
Combine numbers are kinda useless to me to an extent.
Scottie’s was significantly better than Cooper and CMB’s testing numbers yet CMB and Cooper are way more explosive with the ball with a live dribble in their hands. Combine athleticism doesn’t equal in game athleticism.
Combine numbers are often a poor reflection athletic expression in-game. Testing a two-step max vertical in an open gym is very different mechanically than euro stepping around a defender at full speed and still being able to elevate for a dunk. One is useful in-game.
