Lol

I’m just glad we now have someone else besides Herro who can score the ball. This should help with some of those dry spells and give Spo more options with lineups he can cook up. And we lost nothing of value so thats a win

Yeah lol. I'm glad we got another scorer in which we gave up garbage but the way I'm seeing people here praising his defense. I'm like what? Are you guys still watching Toronto Powell or something? But it's cool i get it. A lot of people just name watch.

We will get the best out of Powells defense again next season, he’s worst case going to be respectable on that end and not be a target all game every game

Powell might be better served coming off the bench as a 6th man rather then starting with Herro.

This is probably why you cant give up Wiggins or Jagsmith. If you can flip Rozier for a decent big or big wing, Heat are good to go.

Trade Powell for a FRP if we still suck 30-40 games in

I'm just saying dont get your hopes up. He'll bring scoring which will be greatly appreciated, but dont expect him to go out there and slow down anyone either.

Bam for Giannis in-coming. . .

I would prefer to send Herro to MIL and keep Bam.

Can you imagine a lineup with Giannis at SF, Bam at PF, and Ware at C?

Not only has Powell taken on a leadership role and been an offensive go-to for the Clippers, but he has also become a defensive force. In an earlier game against the Golden State Warriors, Powell came up with a massive block on Moses Moody’s 3-point attempt then raced down the court and scored. He then took on the challenge of guarding 7-foot-3 Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs.

“Just honing in on the defensive end. That’s been the biggest thing,” said Powell, who has two blocked shots and nine steals this season. “I’ve been so focused offensively. They want me to return to my earlier days, guarding the ball, being a two-way player. So, that’s the thing I’m focused on, using my voice, being a leader on the defensive end because everybody knows I can score and put the ball in the basket.”

I’ve watched quite a bit of norm, I just need him to be passable. I know he’s not all nba defense or anything lol

If Powell was worth a first, he'd have gotten one for the clippers.

Scorers who cant hold their own are getting jimmy fredetted. Times are changing.

The kings are desperate to unload monk and derozan. Yet no one wants them. No one wants kuminga, etc..etc..

Oh my bad. I didn't know calling out his defense was being on a high horse and nitpicking. I gave credit to the move and his offense. I too can show you a quote from Spo where he talks about Tyler playing improved defense and even Tyler himself saying he's worked on it? Does that make it true or the consistent? Obviously not because Herro is dog water on defense.

https://www.talkbasket.net/193494-erik-spoelstra-tyler-herro-has-improved-his-defense?amp=1

Once again my apologies for telling yall what I saw in games of someone defensively since I watch games. I'll keep my opinions to myself lol.

In terms of Clippers team context, Powell had the 2nd worst DRTG and tied for worst DBPM (along with Amir Coffey) among the top 8 minute getters last season. He's not the level of bad defender that Miami has experienced with Rozier, Herro and Robinson. He has previously been a solid or better defender during his younger years and his shift to take on more offensive load has surely come at the expense of some defensive impact.

I'm sorry guys. Norman Powell is a great defender like others have said earlier in this thread. I was wrong. My eyes lied to me watching games. Matter of fact my eyes were closed watching those games. Clippers fans also lied about his defense. Other fans on Twitter as well lied about his defense.

Impossible!! We're not supposed to critique players at all. Even if we acknowledge it was a good move acquiring said player and acknowledge said player is great offensively.

Reflective of your level of diligence.

Attention =! commendation

But I sure hope your fantasy exercise of taking a neutral statement and turning it into a hypebeast narrative (same thing you're doing with idea of Lillard being back post-ASB) proves to be true here. It will be very good for Miami if Nick Arison is some sort of FO savant that has been limited by other factors despite being in a top decisionmaking role for over 10 years. My educated assumption is that Nick has his fingerprints over all of those "other factors", though.

Return to Miami Heat
