??? Apparently Jrue’s medicals got flagged and now the trade is just Simons for Jrue

I've been saying this for a year, Celtics very lucky to get off of the last 3 years of Jrue Holidays contract. Thank you Portland!

Yeah, he was showing signs last season of the beginning of the gentle downward slope of a great career. Shot just a little off; D just a little less effective.

We gave Jrue an insanely overpriced extension in the first place.

The other players of his age/level are playing on annual value of $5- $15 million: Westbrook, Love, Horford, Mike Conley, Brook Lopez
Brook Just got 2/$18 with the Clips

If Jrue was a FA this summer, he'd be 3/$30 or something. Celts doing all these extensions and just extending everyone so far into the tax, really was just not that prudent

but..........the Celtics would not have won in 2024 without him. Forever grateful!

I don’t think that was ever the plan.
Getting under the second Apron was a huge lift, and ducking the tax next year is pretty much in the bag.
Its possible of course they keep cutting and try to move Simmons/ Niang/ Hauser.

They probably had to do it, but every team is writing their own epitaphs with giant contracts now.

Keith not sure if we will avoid the tax entirely. But definitely will get under the 2nd apron, which right now we are barely above that.

Just my opinion, but that was the big error. JB might have been the other one, but if you're in on that, the JH contract is what really exposed the team to deconstruction under the new, poor owner.

So the trade's official, but not a peep from Celtics Twitter or media about Simons? That’s kinda odd.

Those two contracts are a definite factor, but once Tatum went down, breaking the team up had to happen. It's the CBA. Even Steve Ballmer surrendered to the basketball penalites of the second apron, and he doesn't care about the money at all.

The Celtics might have squeezed one more year out of this group if they'd repeated, but if you need to improve, the basketball penalties make team building impossible.

Yeah, you'd expect something if he was sticking around.

So, what kind of TPEs did we end up creating? Presumably not a big one since the deals seem to have been distinct transactions rather than some bigger combined one.

How much?

Seemed like a great guy to take a chance on (if he is around the same price as Garza)

Celtics got a big one in the KP deal. Don't know the exact size.

Watch for media follows on this to see if they really intend to keep Simons. The official team account hasn't done a 'welcome' social post yet.

Bobby Krivitsky‬

Brad Stevens will meet with the media tomorrow. So will Matt Reynolds, who is the Celtics' head coach for Summer League this year. Members of the roster they're bringing to Vegas will also speak with the media.

So a quote from Brad Stevens himself doesn't count but let's watch what the team's social media coordinator has to say?
