Again, the FO doing their thing of turning a little to a lot. I really want us to roll the dice on Ben Simmons and Bol Bol. What lineups we can put on the floor.

I would rather see us bring back IJax and James Wiseman.

He doesn't look like he can cover as much ground as Myles, or react as well laterally?... (Most of these were against G-League competition),... BUT,... (big but),... He seems to make up for that with really good court awareness? (on both ends) You can see him read the play & start to move to the right defensive position, long before the ball actually gets into a position to go for a shot. Offensively, you can see him hunt the open spot on the perimeter way more instinctively (and more often) than Myles used to?

Measured 7’0.5” barefoot, 7’2.0” in shoes 9’6.0” standing reach, 234.2 lbs, and 7’2.75” wingspan at the 2021 NBA Draft Combine

That standing reach is basically = to Myles. Don't have any information on his verticals.

I did notice in the defense clip,... that he also makes the effort to run the floor, in the mix of the play. He does seem fast enough - even for us, in the open floor, when he has a chance to just sprint & go? Looks like a really, really good fit for us. Seems to have the offense of Bryant, with the defense of Bradley? Not a huge rebounder,...but,.. well,.. we are used to that. :D

If Bryant were to work on the efficiency of his defense? (He very surprisingly did cover a lot of ground on defense last year. Just has to be more effective with covering it to the right spots?) Huff & Bryant could make a pretty effective center by committee, with Bradley or I-Jax (or both depending on roster slots) playing as the stronger, better rebounding, post option when needed?

Was out of town for fourth but was reading all weekend the tweets and stories and listening to some quick pods on Jay Huff, and while i know its unlikely but i feel like the Pacers got a really good player here. Even if it doesn't turn out, its still a nice low-risk attempt.

NCAA Champion
All-ACC defensive team
G-League defensive player of the year

His PER 36 are excellent. Shoot 81-200 (41%) from 3PT.

Just a dude whos earned a look. What better season to see what he's got to play with our talent in a wash season? Who knows, he might just surprise us.

I think he’ll surprise people who haven’t seen him play. I think he’ll easily fit in and become a fan favorite because of his ability to score and hustle. I saw him play in a preseason game at Indy and he caught my eye then.

Awesome.

I'll be honest, when i heard the news come on my phone notification, i didnt know the player. Then first glance the stats looked far from impressive. But glad i was able to read and hear more about him as the weekend went by.

Pacers have a sneaky good scouting dept.

The impressive aspect of the scouting department currently is how they’ve watched for players who didn’t breakthrough or breakout for various reasons such as Obi, Jalen Smith, and Aaron Nesmith with their drafting club then were able to acquire them at the right time. Could even put TJ in the same category of getting him when he had much more growth remaining. Acquiring Huff also shows the dedication to following the early career path of players and keeping them on the radar of maybe some day we can pry them away. The other aspect that has been more successful lately is the players drafted and acquired lately have had very good character along with their talent.

Happy to land Huff. Seems like (on paper) the exact type of centre we want for our game style. It also seems like his got upside in our system and being a late developer notwithstanding his age.

I’m optimistic he’s a good to great fit.

Here's where we stand:

https://www.capsheets.com/indiana-pacers-cap-sheet/

We have 12 under contract and Kam Jones makes 13. That includes two centers - Bradley and Huff - and we need at least one more. Bryant seems safest unless iJax or Wiseman are healthier than I expect. Podcasters think we need to add another point guard option and my vote goes to Q with Peter getting his two-way slot. No room for JJ who should retire and maybe get a coaching contract.

Kevin says in presser that we're signing Wiseman today. also said we're bringing another player back but didn't say if iJax or TB.

EDIT when questioned he admitted they were close to signing iJax.

I was hoping to keep Bryant around as at least the 3rd string option. He did a better job for us than anybody expected.

We've got 13 signed including Bradley's non-guaranteed deal. Kam Jones and iJax make 15. to sign Bryant or a guard (Q?) we've have to waive Bradley. KP described Bradley's situation as optional so he could be gone. JJ also gone. I see signing Q or RayJ to clear a two-way spot for Peter as more likely that signing TB.

Now that Wiseman is signed there’s just a few more obvious pieces to the Pacer puzzle.

1 Qualifying offer signed by Isiah Jackson.
2 Possible contingency move if he doesn’t sign.
3 Evaluation of summer league talent performances
4 Which 3 players get our two way contracts out of Freeman, Q Jax, Ray J, and Taelon Peter
5 Disposition of odd man out from two way battle
6 Wrap up trade possibilities and free agent signings to finish this year’s roster construction
7 Training camp
8 Competition results or decision on the 5 position excess of Huff, I Jax, Tony Bradley, and Wiseman
9 Decisions on Benn Mathurin and Aaron Nesmith extensions

unless Kam wows, I think we drop one center and sign Q to a regular contract making room for Peter's two-way. at the moment Kam has a hamstring problem and I think he needs to pass a physical to be signed.

:) Damn! (tip of the hat),... you are good & on top of this stuff! (no sarcasm - compliment intended!) :)

Do you happen to know how long this hamstring problem has been bothering him?....

He had a hamstring issue at the combine but I haven't seen any reporting as to whether this is the same leg or a second injury. as for being on top of things, I just watch Locked on Pacers.

also, Scoot can clarify, but if we get a hardship extension, does that keep Tyrese from counting toward 15 and allow us to carry 4 centers and still sign another guard???
