Re: PF targets
I’m confident that Lauri out of Utah will be a very strong player. They’ve been an absolute mess the last two years, playing young guards or score-first guards, tanking quite a bit, healthy-resting Lauri and Kessler as much as they can get away with. I’m sure he wants out of there now that his bag is secured. I really don’t like Ace Bailey, either, and playing next to that guy isn’t going to do anything for Markannen.
But yeah, the contract is big. It’s a risk.

Based on what he was asking from the Warriors -- Moody, Podz, multiple 1sts, multiple pick swaps -- I think this would be too little.
I also think, though, that the Pistons wouldn't do this unless they had a genuine high-caliber #2 creator on the team. Markkanen is chiefly an off-ball player; he's best suited as a #3 option.
If we kept Ivey, I'd say he's a promising 2nd option creator

Good friend of mine is a die-hard Jazz guy. He says they'd just buy out Harris if that trade happened, likely.
We were discussing, and maybe someone here knows: is there a rule against a situation where we do that trade, Jazz buyout Harris, and then Harris resigns with the Pistons?
I'm just very bored at work on a Monday post-holiday...

Ivey/Lanier
Thompson/Holland/Robinson
Markkanen/Harris/Klintman
Duren/Stew/Reed

Yeah that loop hole has been closed. We could resign him this summer i believe but if but out we are the only team he can't sign with

Hopefully Ron Holland is bulking up this off-season, though he doesn't look like he hs the frame to add.

That's the hope, but it's only a hope. Maybe it's Ivey, maybe it's Ausar, maybe it's Holland, but we don't have enough data yet. That's one reason why this season is so focused upon growth from within: the org needs to know if one of them possibly can, and it needs to know if none of them can.

Harris wouldn't be able to re-sign until next offseason.

I remember way back in the day when we traded McDyess as part of the Billups/Iverson trade, and we only had to wait a certain number of weeks to bring him back at the minimum.
That hasn't been allowable for quite some time.

Re: PF targets
Ron Holland is not a 4. It’s a waste of who he is on both ends. He’s a 2/3, closer to a jumbo 2 in his current body.
If anyone on the current roster is going to back up Tobias (besides the obvious Stewart), it’s Ausar. He can rebound and defend the position, and cause a mismatch on the other end, albeit one that doesn’t force the opposition to actually guard him on the perimeter. I get that we’ll want to use Ausar as a POA defender in the playoffs — I’m talking about regular season here.
If you put Ron or (gulp) Duncan Robinson out there as a pseudo-big, we’re gonna get mauled on the boards and down low. Duren doesn’t help much.

Re: PF targets
I’d rather not have Ausar or Holland playing PF. Maybe Ausar if we need to play small ball. But we really, really need a solid backup PF and I still don’t see that on our roster.

Pistons are woefully undersized at both C and PF. This was glaringly exposed against NY. Good thing Pistons are not in the West or they would be killed by all the teams with strong front courts. Still, the East presents its own challenges. This overseas imo will be merely treading water if TL can't land a decent size PF to back up or replace Tobias.

Not sure we’re ready to give up that kind of pick package yet. Langdon might want to see if the young guys can repeat what they did last year first.

Lauri Isn't Robin caliber. And Weaver ain't the GM here so Detroit isn't going to be giving unprotected FRP's like that.

I really think Grant is who this exception is being created for. If we can absorb Grant and an asset for the TPE that would be an A+ offseason imo.

I don't understand what the f?ck TL is waiting for? He knows we're weak the 4 spot and does nothing

Re: PF targets
Pistons can not trade away 1st round picks. We are a Cade injury away from the lottery.
Also 4 out of 5 starters are just kids and need a ton of reps to know who/what they are. Maybe Holland and Ausar BOTH level the **** up and now you could trade one as a valuable asset for a PF.
Way too many unknowns to be selling the farm for a guy that might not be what we need. Also Markannen is overrated in my opinion. Good at offense but he is not going to be the guy we need against KAT or Giannis in the ECF. Also could add Siakam to the list of guys that Markanen gets handled by.

I think he can be the primary scorer off the bench and a 3 and D when needed. It might result in Holland being the odd man out but he’s do young that I think him getting 20mpg is fine for year 2.

Ain’t nobody touching that Grant contract
