this is crazy. Some say this is directly from Dolan, others say this is Leon Rose... they've improved every season i think under Thibs, or atleast the last 4, they went to ECF this season. Last year lost in 7 to Pacers but were pretty banged up. This is crazy

Not thibs fault that KAT doesn't play defense.

I was very surprised when I read this,… but I guess (reading articles today from NY based sources) that many were expecting it?

More mainstream article that pretty much sums up the thoughts:

Why would Portland make this trade?

In reading articles about the trade Jru was with them and they traded him to the Celtics. So they know all about having him in Portland and must think that he has more left in the tank, like his defense, and want him to mentor his teammates into a defensive mindset. While I understand wanting to prepare their younger talent to play better defensively to me it seems like a reach. I just don’t know if he’s got that much left in the tank ? He appeared injured more this season and deferring to his teammates more than being a weapon for the Celtics. I have to think Brad Stevens made a great deal to reduce the tax penalty $41 million and past this season can weigh the pros or cons of re-signing Simmons.

Honestly,... I think this is more about Scoot?.... Simons has been playing point for the Blazers,... until Scoot seemed to level up at the end of the season. If you look at the Blazers roster,... they have no one that can not just mentor, but really coach Scoot to help him develop into the player he could be? If you look across the league,... the player that has the skillset & mindset that Scoot needs to develop, is Jrue.

Yeah,.. this is expensive. But, I have to believe that the Blazers will be doing more house-cleaning this summer. This gives them a chance to give Scoot a leg-up on his learning curve (something he said he always wanted,... to learn from veterans to improve his game), gives the whole team the chance to learn how to play & how to execute with a real PG pushing the offense & heading the defense. I'm not sure it gives them more wins next season,... but it should change the mindset of the whole team for 3 - 4 years from now,.. even if Jrue is retired by then?

Or,... I could have just had too much coffee & be reading too much into it?.... :banghead: :D

I forgot about Scoot who will benefit greatly from Jru. I was thinking they were able to make the trade because they’re ready to commit to Shaedon Sharpe in Simmons SG role.

They played well over the last 41 (winning record overall). Probably wanting to kickstart the development of their guards, and Jrue is a great guy for them to learn from?

Wow, if this draft was deep the 9, 19, and 22nd picks would be huge for rebuilding. They could get busy and trade a couple for a player before the draft.

they could give KP a higher title and move Chad up so he wouldn't look elsewhere.

They already had. And Chad is already the day to day decision maker in the front office.

Found this interesting so I posted it here for all to reference teams projected wins next season. I haven’t taken time to look at it yet to dissect and see what I agree with.

If you follow the link to see the full list, Pacers are 39.5. I'd like to think we'll be over but it's summer so I'm optimistic.

Per Shams:

Cole Anthony has agreed to a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies and plans to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks after he clears waivers, sources tell ESPN. Grizzlies finalized the buyout with Jeff Schwartz and Javon Phillips of Excel Sports for Anthony's new opportunity.

One of the youngest guys I’ve ever seen take a buyout. Wild.

Yeah,... was surprised to see it. Must have been caught up in the numbers crunch for Paolo's extension?... Cause, whomever broke the news of the trade, included that it was expected for the Grizz to buy him out?...

The Grizzlies have to make room to extend Santi Aldama? and JJJ. So he got caught up in the numbers there also.
