Knicks to Hire Mike Brown as Next Head Coach

Listening to the presser, Brown said Thibs was his friend, and didn't want to talk about what happened. He wants to have that discussion in Hamsterdam.

I am here for your optimism brethren.

I'm hoping for a little Torre-like déjà vu.

It's funny because I was calling for Bryant non stop. I didnt want a known face. I wanted a coach that would be modern, connect with the players
and a coach that could take our unique mix of players and get the most out of them. I also wanted a coach that would play 9/10 guys; ultimately
trusting those guys.

As the coaching search progressed. I realized that unless there was some Leon smoke screen-- Bryant wasn't coming. When I heard the name Brown
being mentioned my first thought was oh no! -not another recycled coach. I thought didn't he just get fired in Sac
BUT!
I caught myself and I opened my mind and looked into him. I put aside what the fan consensus on him was and did some research.
To my surprised I discovered that he resume was extensive. His journey was filled with years of exposure and experiences with some of the great
players and coaches. He also won coach of the year TWICE. That's big for a coach. His record is a 600 winning percentage. In some of the videos
I came across I noticed his energy level was always high. I like that he was a military man. Loved that he was well organized. And...I especially loved
that he was known as a defensive coach but RECENTLY coached a team with a young Fox to becoming the #1 offense.

Then today I get to see him live. Hear him speak...See him beaming like a rookie coach who just got his first opportunity...
When he said he wants everything that comes with this Knicks job- he meant it from his soul and you know what...everything that he
has experienced in his career has prepared him for this seat.

I am certain that this man is on a mission for greatness. He's a team player, loves collaboration, holds himself to a high standard, and will expect the
same from our players.

I feel foolish even thinking about Bryant as an option. Mike Brown is ready. I would bet money on it NYKinMIA!

smart hire for the Knicks

...placing aside the benefit of the doubt that team president Leon Rose has earned, this was an objectively smart hire for the Knicks as they look to take the next step forward and win a championship.

Assuming that moving on from Thibodeau was completely necessary -- despite what the national talking heads spewed -- the Knicks ran a strong and competent search to seek out Brown. It was a multi-week process that began with, as comical as it may have seemed, the savvy move of trying to poach the NBA's best employed coaches.

In the meantime, the Knicks interviewed multiple coaches from different levels for multiple rounds, eventually leading to Brown. And of all the available coaches, there’s an easy argument to make for Brown being the best of the bunch.

The Knicks could've gambled on an untried assistant, but given the stage, expectations, and starpower surrounding the team, it may have been too big of an ask.

Sometimes the correct answer is the simplest one -- replace the coach you fired with the best replacement available. Even if one argues that Brown wasn’t the No. 1 option, he checks plenty of other boxes as well.

As much as Thibodeau’s results spoke for themselves, they clearly didn't meet the front office’s standards, and the processes behind them left much to be desired from management, the players, and fanbase.

Few in-season practices, late to adjust, failure to experiment with schemes, and the popular minutes concern are just a few of the key weaknesses of the Thibodeau-era that led to this moment.

Naturally, in seeking out his replacement, the Knicks wanted a coach that would address these specific flaws. Reports suggested that they wanted a more collaborative coach, both with management and assistants. One with a more dynamic approach to schemes that would look to utilize the full roster, rather than rely strictly on key players.

For the most part, the Knicks got their man. If one wants to contend that Thibodeau is the better overall coach, by all means. But Brown is a different one, and different just might be what this Knicks team needs.

I feel really good hearing Brown describe his offensive schemes. It's not just "let the game tell you what to do." The practice and plan, which has to make it easier. I like this a lot.

Maybe some fans would like to listen to him on Sunday morning, but that's not what I want to hear from an NBA head coach. He may be a great guy - I'm not disputing that. But this is now how Brown is talking about the Knicks. Thank god!

Thibs did what? Used Jalen to play in different ways? All I saw was ISO hero ball most of the season and running down the clock on just about every possession.

Are you against it during crunch time in the 4th quarter?

Thibs did what? Used Jalen to play in different ways? All I saw was ISO hero ball most of the season and running down the clock on just about every possession.

If we only use it when necessary, the defense won't have had a whole game to try out how best to double and triple team him. The may even worry he'll start a play instead of doing his iso, which will make his iso easier. Thibs did lots of good things but got very bogged down in continuing his ways. I had a grudge against that since he overplayed Elf.

Let's write a play about Thibs as Moses: Helped free his people from slavery but never himself made it to the promised land.

Wasn't a huge fan of any of the options but Jenkins was intriguing I guess. Younger, did a pretty good job in his first gig with a problematic young team, and doesn't have that retread coach stink to him yet
