JWill is next.

We will see how long they can hang on to all three.

It is Dort and IH that will probably be let go to make room financially for Chet and JWill. And so it begins, the breaking apart of a champion. They'll have one more season together before this team starts to be deconstructed.

If he doesnt improve he will be. Chet's had the least NBA time, so its forgiveable, but he's definitely lagged behind Jdub. There's never any critiques on a rookie salary and even less so when you win a title, but Chet has lowkey been disappointing offensively. He's probably been better defensively than he's given credit for

I think they’d keep Chet and move JDub just due to the fact they seem to have a lot more guards in their system, and without Chet and Hart they’d have no bigs
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

He'd have to show more to make that justifiable. He's not good enough and, more importantly, not available enough to be taken over JDub. And while they have more guards than bigs, none of their other guards/wings can handle being secondary creator. Theyre all strictly role players that just defend and shoo (we'll see with Topic)

SGA alone will cost 65M / 70M / 75M starting in '27. The supermax ain't no joke (he's worth it though)

Depending on how aggressive OKC ownership is regarding salary, I wouldn't be shocked if they eventually trade both Chet and JWill and they just re-cycle pieces around SGA with all their picks.

OKC needs to lock up the core so they can moved later if it eventually comes to that. They probably have 1-2 more years with this trio then major decisions need to be made.

Chet making that kind of money is wild. Was playing 25-30mpg in the finals.

I think SGA will eventually ask out. Once the team starts to unload contracts like Dort (who SGA is close too) and IH, it will start to give him the reason to ask out.

OKC will want to hold onto Chet and JDub as the core to build around.

Raps just need to wait this out.

SGA walking through the championship parade with a Canadian flag shows me this guy is loyal, and probably wants to return home. Especially with all the crap going on in the US right now.

I'm sure Chet only gets 250 mill if he's All-NBA next season, which is unlikely. Probably more like 40+ mill/yr AAV over the following five seasons.

It's funny to think that in their rookie seasons, Chet and Wemby were seen as pretty close in talent level. Uh, no.

Was just going to come in here and mention the Chet contract.

Maybe we should make a monster offer for J-Dub?

I think we have to wait until his new contract kicks in before we could make the numbers work but maybe Barrett, CMB and a slew of picks would be the starting point.

Something with the bones of Quickley to the Suns, Green to the Thunder, J-Dub to the Raps. Picks and other fillers as needed. Then we can move Barrett for a PG and some expirings.

That'd be like choosing Ibaka over Harden all over again. Frankly, I'm pretty surprised they decided to max Chet out this early. Injury-prone and just not as good as JWill.

I'd honestly rather keep RJ unless picks are involved. Monk ain't good and Keegan is a bust.

There's a chance Keegan gets back to just being a solid 3+D player. I think they've been playing him at the 4, which could explain some of his woes. But he's gonna be looking for a big payday..probably a better idea to take filler + pick.

Keegan Murray makes sense as a backup 3/4 but there’s no way we can keep him and Ochai while Monk is on the books longer than RJ. The roster construction makes no sense from a financial point of view

Who exactly were they bidding against? J Willni get giving the rookie max but Chet? Don’t know about that boss.

Chet was always going to get the rookie max, especially after the title. The threshold for top players from a draft class getting the max isn't that high.

As long as OKC keeps winning, all their players will be seen as valuable so they will have no problems moving him later, unless he suffers a major injury.

lots of teams with capspace next year would bid the max for chet and then they wont get a 5th year of control if he signs an offer sheet. might not even get a 4th year if he signs 3+1 PO offer sheet

Which he has a history of. I think this is a pretty big mistake, honestly. However, one could make the argument that maybe he's more tradeable now that he's locked down.

Not with that contract though. That’s a lot of money for a non-star.

Chet is a star. Just more of a defensive one at this point. The risk is his body isn't built for a long career, but if you get a few early titles out of him this is a no risk move to keep him happy. His offense will come around soon enough. JDub is more replaceable, but they should still max him out, too.

Monk is much better than RJ. I’d do that in a heart beat.

Surprised people are down on Chet in here. He’d easily be our most impactful player.

He’s coming off a tough hip injury was still able to be a top 5 defender in the playoffs. He’s worth a rookie max, not a supermax though.
