I'm very skeptical but I'll root for him. I just hope the FO has the sense to cut the cord on him quick if we take a lateral or back step.. this team and it's "championship window" doesn't have time to d*ck around

Just curious, but if you don't think Mike Brown is better than Thibs, who would you have hired (if the decision was yours) that was realistic and available?

Wasn't a huge fan of any of the options but Jenkins was intriguing I guess. Younger, did a pretty good job in his first gig with a problematic young team, and doesn't have that retread coach stink to him yet

Jenkins's limited experience is probably why Leon didn't take a chance on him. Same with Johnnie Bryant.

The front office sees the East is wide open and that we're very close to winning a chip. My guess is that they thought the risk was too great to take a chance on someone with limited experience, which left a "retread" (experienced) coach as the best option for their goals.

I'm willing to give MB a chance. What I really want is to see who he adds to his staff. That could make a world of difference.

Well I gotta say I was impressed with Mike's presser. I love his enthusiasm and thought out responses. Seems like a guy who is easy to like and his coaching record is better than I expected given how he's talked about

He was the scapegoat. The Kings 2 best players Fox and Sabonis are top 20-30ish guys in the league - so any team ceiling is limited if those 2 guys are your best players. He maximized an average at best roster. He’s a good coach and can coach on both ends, and he can connect with his players.

Talking about working with the FO as a team, as well as EVOLVING as a HC, shows an awareness we didn't have last year. He literally tells us why Thibs was let go. Nothing many of us didn't already know but, good to see. Not doing things HIS way vs what fits the roster? Hmmm...where have I heard this before? Oh that's right...many of us kept BEGGING for this!! Look for answers. Don't expect things to change without making it change.

Let's hope he brings in a good staff and can unlock some things we need to advance to the finals and have a shot to win it all. This season ended too soon. I couldn't stand to watch another season of Thibs way of doing things.

My concern to some extent - and it might be dumb, but they have been a laughing stock in the media recently for some of their trades. So if the owner is annoyed by that he might not want to do anyone a "favor" - meaning downright saying no or asking for way too much (multiple 2nds?)

They traded their unprotected pick next year with the delusion they're going to be a competitive/playoff team - doubt they would want to lose their best assistant coach in that case but who knows.

So the consensus rumor is that Erman/Brunson/Bryant/Cheeks will return and that Brown will add to it. Wanting Borrego on his staff is awesome. I feel better about the hire by far than I did originally. I don't trust things until I get enough information to earn that trust. Simply firing Thibs was not all it took to satisfy me. As this hire fleshes out, I see things I like. Positive vibes.

GO GET BORREGO!!

I was hoping there was a technicality to be explored here, like he was an Assistant Head Coach in NO, so we could offer him an Associate Head Coach role here and it would technically be a promotion so they'd have to let him go, but there doesn't seem to be. He's already an Associate Head Coach for the Pelicans. :-?

I don't know all the ins and outs of that stuff. Is there no way to get him?

Oh, there absolutely is - it involves him telling the Pels he actively wants to leave and then the Knicks compensating New Orleans in a trade - but I was just hoping to find a way to get it done for free.

Yes...as an assistant. They don't have to grant permission for lateral moves. He obviously knows we want him in some capacity at this point so, from what I understand, it's up to Borrego to say he wants out now. No interview necessary.

it's the other way around if i'm not mistaken. they don't need permission to move up. but they need permission to interview for the same role elsewhere.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.
