James Borrego will remain as associate head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans for the 2025-26 season. The New York Knicks had interest in hiring Borrego away from the Pelicans to join the staff of Mike Brown. Borrego also interviewed for the Knicks' head coaching job.
The Pelicans denied Borrego the opportunity to interview with the Denver Nuggets for their top assistant coach position, which was a signal that he would not be allowed to leave the franchise for a lateral move.
Borrego has also been a head coach candidate in recent years for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers.
