If we’re going to dump Temple, why did we sign him in the first place?

start martin on 2way, until 6-8 weeks into the season, then sign a standard rookie deal.

at that point his salary for the year plus $800k we are over the tax right now, will be around $2.3 mil. exactly the amount of money you would save by dumping temple at the deadline and thus get under the tax; barring any other trades.

Who's gonna take temple lol

And what's the benefit of delaying the standard deal if that's the plan anyway?

temple + cash to some team like we took Weisman and cash at the deadline last year

and delaying it drops his cap hit because its prorated. otherwise even dropping temple doesnt get the team under the tax.

That then begs the question, why sign temple in the first place to go through all this hassle.

He can want whatever but counting 2-ways there are still only 540 jobs in the NBA, and he’s a 6’2, 5 year college senior taken in the 2nd round. Teams aren’t knocking his door down trying to offer a full NBA contract.

I am sure this is one of those "prove yourself, & we will convert this to a full NBA contract". Kind of like FVV.

lets say you singed martin to rookie deal like shead/mogbo did last year, you are still into the tax by around 400 k. so you have 14 players and are into tax, and no disposable player to get under tax. by signing both temple and martin this way you have a disposable player to get under tax.

Because you need to start the year with 14 players on the roster.

Well, the Raptors could have signed a younger player for like $1m and been under the tax.

Do 2 way players not count toward the 14 player minimum?

Hmm, that's only if you sign him to a 2nd round exception deal like them. If you signed him to a rookie minimum you'd be under the tax in that scenario.

Only Martin. Any other rookie signee would count as just as much as Temple for tax calcs.

October is 3 months away. Can sign him then. No other team would offer him a contract.

Just hire him as a coach so he gets paid during the off-season.
