It wasn't terrible.

Too much dribbling in place from him tonight. His jumpers in the NBA are going to be catch and shoot, not self created.

We shouldve gotten Reynaud!!! No need for those extra draft picks for Noah

Penda's archetype is far more valuable than Reynaud's IMO.

But Reyanud is the arvhetype we need for this Finals run..

Meh. Reynaud is BBQ chicken in a switch defensive scheme IMO.

He's certainly skilled offensively and will carve out a role, perhaps a good sized role, on that alone. But I just don't really trust him to defend in space whatsoever.

It does matter though.

Like at 6'1" 180 or whatever Jase is, it's going to be hard for him to consistently get on the floor at any position other than point guard.

Now the Magic are uniquely positioned with a ton of size, but there's just not many 6'1" shooting guards in the NBA.

i mean cole isn't much taller than jase and somehow he was able to get consistent minutes.....

Yes. At point guard.

(And he was terrible every year of his career but one, but that's besides the point)

as a coach you have to find a way especially if he's indeed a 40% 3pt shooter....but until i see his size hurt him, i think he'll be fine

i'm not sure if that was a penda issue or a process issue, it seemed like coach didn't have enough time to install any offense not anything real

It's not a judgement as much as just being unsure what his jumper looks like in the situation we are a lot more likely to see it.

I have no idea how Carter was a lotto pick. Looked like a late 1st or 2nd rd pick last year in his limited minutes. He's actually very solid defensively but putrid on offense. He's 23 too... he'll be out of the league by the end of his rookie contract with his current trajectory.

Jase is bigger than Tyus.

Yea wtf was that? Wasn’t he one of Rob’s assistants?

I don’t know but he could barely speak English.

I’m going to give him the benefit of doubt and say he was drunk hanging out in the MGM grand all day.

Funny how many people around here were especially high on him not that long ago.

I didn't see the game but I'm hoping the consensus take aways are that Jase is the next Jameer, and Penda is the next Hedo, and Bronze Wagner is the next Rashard...am I right? :D

The point I am making on Jase is that at his size he's almost assuredly a one position defender in the pros. He'll be defending the opponents smallest player, which is almost always going to be their point guard.

Which means you can't play another small one-position defending guard with him. There's no real scenario that you could play Tyus and Jase together for any length of time, ya know?

Now... the Magic because of Paolo, Franz and Black (assuming he himself continues to develop) are uniquely positioned to accommodate a small guard who can shoot and score, but doesn't have overly developed point guard skills.

But that doesn't mean the transition to the NBA is going to be easy for Jase. If he is a 6'1" shooting guard, then he needs a very specific kind of roster to make that work. Hopefully he has it here.

Hedo was a pack a day smoker back in 2009.

I remember being worried after AGs first summer league game that he was the next Joe Alexander. He was the 8th pick who only played 745 minutes in the NBA.

I feel like we have minutes/role discussions every year and then we have like a zillion injuries lol. But yeah, I wouldn't expect many minutes from the rookies, just like TDS last year started filling in once we started needing extra bodies. I think they're hoping he can slot into a Tyus role down the line.

I agree with this take. As Penda got more comfortable, his intangibles really started to stand out.

Just finished. Thought Jase looked really good on defense, on the other side Devon Carter woof. Jase got to the rim, some nice passes off the dribble. Seemed like he only went left...a bit of handling with his right.

Penda is a big boy. Had a couple nice drives and decent D. he took a 3 off the dribble looked a little flat, but his shot looks clean.

The 2nd unit was pretty unwatchable. I watched it early, Santos...not great. I'll admit i skipped the 2nd unit after their abysmal opening rotation.
