VJ Edgecombe was my guy all college season and then Ace Bailey entered the mix. Edgecombe was the super prospect in my eyes. Was a-okay with not landing Flagg.

Have newfound disdain for the 76ers.

The biggest danger for DQ is that good New Orleans food. Love that he looked comfortable out there and they played him next to true 7 footer Dickinson.

The rich get richer, Dallas just picked-up their next J.J. Barea. Undrafted.

Good morning and welcome to the best day of the year. The start of the only week during which it’s ok to root for Wizard wins.

It's street ball, so I expect big numbers if they are sharing the ball

This is also a good time to remind everyone that Summer League means nothing.

Pretty much the only thing you can ever glean from Summer League play is when a guy doesn't hold up to NBA standards athletically. If a guy who scored in college can't get any separation at the NBA level, then that's a red flag (see Johnny Davis). Other than that, nothing matters.

In other words, if a player shines during SL it doesn’t mean he’s gonna be an all-star and if he struggles it doesn’t mean he’s gonna be a bust.

On the other hand, fun is fun, and it's fun to watch a kid like Nembhard show so well. A feel-good thing & very welcome.

Bub probably wont allow Tre to get 30. I wouldn't be surprised if those two are trying to outscore each other.

The coaches have their work cut out for them, Queen will have to learn or ride the pine, Fears had tunnel vision and wasn't looking to pass from what I saw. Early going, these kids will have to play in the G League.

Terrence Shannon was NASTY

Joan Berringer surprised me, swatting 7 shots and good instincts with his rim protection, Minny may have gotten a steal.

I think a lot of us were on the Berringer, and Essengue trains for a trade up :(, hated we got neither. Very annoyed that Beringer went one slot in front of us, though I have no idea if we were interested. Might be valuable for curmudgeon crankiness to list the guys the board loved that we didn't trade up for:

I feel like there was generalized interest in moving up for Beringer and Essengue, for taking Sorber, for moving up for a falling Maluach.

I did like the trade down from 18 and Riley was a guy of interest to me, and getting Riley and 2 2nd's instead of sticking at 18 sounded good, but having both my targets go after 18 (Kasparas and Traore) was pretty infuriating. Not super upset, if I was a Pelicans fan I'd just retire after that draft, but yeah, of the 3 options:

1. Move up for Maluach, Beringer, Essengue, Sorber
2. Stay at slot and take Kasparas or Traore
3. Move down and take Riley, and get some 2nds

what we actually did would rank 3 of 3 for me.

Otoh, if we had selected some of the other guys: Clayton Jr, Newell, Clifford, Richardson, Wolf, I'd be much more upset, and those selections either at 18 or via trade down would rank lower for me than 3.

In fairness, Presti already had a top 2-3 team int he league going into the '24 draft, so he could draft for value with no risk, and Topic was an absolute no brainer, otoh, how low was Topic on most people's boards pre-injury particularly? For me, Topic was who I wanted the Wiz to take if they didn't land the 1.01 or 1.02, and I didn't care if he was hurt because we weren't trying to win anyway. Nobody taken ahead of him after Sarr was more attractive to me than him at the time. Castle was interesting but made me nervous, I had zero interest in Sheppard, Holland was either gonna be a stud or a mega bust (and was drafted far ahead of expectations), Salaun climbed up like Bilal, but seemingly for less justifiable reason other than the class being ----, I had zero interest in the Clingan and Edey options (although I was on team Edey in the fierce debate on the board, I always added the caveat: I would take neither in the lottery), Dillingham nope, Cody Williams I can't remember, was interested in Buzelis, had no idea McCain was going to be that good, or Knecht, really loved Collier's value going that late, but yeah, looking at the board, Topic was basically my guy after Sarr. I also can honestly say, I knew squat about Bub and George and wasn't interested at the time, dug in, and liked what I read about Bub, not about George, and ended up loving both guys.

Really weird as a kid, ended up becoming a Michigan fan because of the X-Men, FSU because of the Redskins, and Hawaii because I liked Rainbows lol. Saw Wolf a lot, and I could never figure out how he'd translate, like the Wolverines in general, he was a turnover machine, but he was also quite the freak in terms of tools, so damn versatile. I noted you loved him, but I just couldn't get on board because it felt like he'd have to max out all those skills and totally find a way to mitigate his weaknesses. Will be interesting to see how he does.

My great heartaches if they hit will be:
Failure to trade up for a falling Maluach, or just for Essengue or Beringer or Sorber, or stay at slot and take Kasparas or Traore. I do like Riley and the 2 2nds, just not more than the other options. I don't know the cost of getting Maluach, Essengue or Sorber, Beringer should've been cheap so, if he hits, that is really gonna hurt.

He's got that point forward game. He can handle the ball like a PG, other than the turnover piece. Beautiful passer, great handle, great vision, just like all of Michigan, seemed to be a little too confident in his hands/passing over doing the simple thing at times.
