Defensively he has Tyson Chandler upside. Completely switchable, great feel for rim protection, great feet to keep position and avoid fouling, good fundamental hand work, can easily recover and seems to have some natural patience in waiting for the ball handler to make his move, which is pretty crazy for a guy that's that young and inexperienced and can only be instinctual at that point. I'm not huge on his defensive rebounding but there's every chance he wasn't being asked to clear the glass on D.

That's actually a lot of what his first summer league game looked like. It's just one game, but the kid showed out and he looked comfortable doing it..

He defended 4 and 5 well even after hurting his wrist and taking a hard shot from a big dude. That hit by Missi might intimidate some younger players, but I don’t think it affected Joan at all. I was very pleased with his performance. Though I do think film study and a player development coach will do wonders for him.

he's a freak athlete, wing mobility at that length

nobody who was drafted is going to play on this team next year

JB has rare/top physical tools to work with

It was hard to tell pre-draft just how athletic/mobile he was given the competition, it seemed elite

Nerlens Noel was kind of the standard of mobility as a 7fter in last 10 years or so

JB is in that neighborhood, Sam Vecenie had said his parents were both physiotherapists, so they clearly knew how to train him to move properly

This is the second time I've seen the Tyson Chandler comp today, and I love that comparison! Beringer is 10 pounds bigger than rookie Chandler, a half-inch shorter but a wingspan that's 1.5 inches longer!

His classmate Willie Cauley-Stein was always the guy I was most impressed by for big man mobility.

I always thought he should have gotten more of a chance than he did

I'm excited that we are getting to watch him against guys like Missi and Queen in the opener, and even Holmes on Saturday. Good early tests for the rookie.

I'm assuming with his size and length that he was a goalie in soccer but can you imagine him in front of the net on set pieces? Peter Crouch would have nothing on this man.

good call, WCS was very mobile, and a bit bigger than Noel too

Noel I just always thought was so quick side to side, the little movements in cutting off a guard, and would get down pretty low, so him getting switched on to anyone on the perimeter wasn't a problem

WCS I thought played more upright, while still being crazy mobile

Holy ****, this kid is legit, super poised and never felt rushed, anticipation and taking his time.

If he keeps this up we struck gold people:

I agree, but what I like is that all he needs to be is bronze this year. If we just give him 12-14 minutes per game it will do so much good for him long term. His instincts will get better, his conditioning will adjust, his chemistry with the guards will improve. There is a lot of upside with Joan, and thankfully we have time for him to develop before Ant’s prime.

Fluid mobility, athletic agility, great timing, natural instinct, maximum effort, focused demeanor, skilled finisher and room to grow.

My sex life has tons of parallels to Beringer. Good times ahead.

This shows that playing overseas, even in a minor league like the Adriatic League, offers much better competition compared to the G League or college basketball. Of course, it's important to be in a developmental environment that provides consistent playing time.

Actually it's not a huge surprise for me. I listen some ITW from former coach's of Joan and all of them are stating that Joan is a real hard worker and a fast learner.
He seems to be much more skilled than Rudy, better hands.

I do hope he get some minutes at the beginning at the season . I'm pretty sure that he will make some damages on the PnR with Mike, Dante or Rob.

He’s definitely legit. What a great draft pick! The way they sold their interest in Yang was brilliant. Nope. JB was the move for sure.

My first reaction to the game was that after the pre-draft private workout with Berry the Wolves walked out praying that he fell to them - similar to when Flip and McHale worked out KG before the draft. Definitely encouraging.

If the NBA draft was held today I wonder where Beringer would be picked. I bet he goes before Maluach maybe top 5.
