Charlotte - Dallas - Sacramento
Charlotte trade: Diabate, Pat C, 4 seconds
Charlotte receive: Gafford
Dallas trade: Gafford, Martin
Dallas receive: Diabate, Monk
Sacramento trade: Monk
Sacramento receive: Martin, Pat C, 4 seconds
Why for Charlotte: get starting C
Why for Dallas: upgrade playmaking and get a cheaper 3rd C
Why for Sacramento: Turn monk into a PF and draft assets. Can use couple 2nds to dump Connaughton too if they prefer capspace/flexibility

I'm fine with this for DAL, if CHO want to keep Diabate, it's also fine.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

but we just got JJ Barea 2.0
Can one of these teams afford to take Prosper in this deal?

You save about 2-3M in this deal, do you still need to dump Prosper? But answer to your q is probably yes..

I like it. Sac is my only question but it seems to fit with the current trend of scoring guards going cheaper than expected.. still feel like Dallas owes Sac something?
I think you could get CLT to give up the worse of firsts they have in 2026 instead of seconds and have Dallas send a second and Powell or Prosper to CLT.. Similar asset cost for Charlotte, but a better singular return for Sac.. and ESPN gets to say they got a first for Monk..

ya maybe CHA can send worst of 2026 1st and SAC (and/or DAL) kick back CHA 2026 2nd or something... or SAC gets a 5th 2nd or something

Is Martin really a PF though?
I like Gaff, but if Diabate comes back I can live with this. Although I still dont understand why peopel put playmaking in the rationale for Monk trades, he's not a PG by any stretch except in height. And we've seen the value for those guys isnt too high.
I'd do this with the understanding that Klay is being traded in another deal as Monk should surely start over him and he'd be a diva about it

Dont think Dallas owes at all here, liek you said we've seen the market for undersized 2 guards, its not hot. If Dallas could get Liam (lifelong Mavs fan and HS teammate of Coop) then maybe, otherwise nah not adidng anything to turn Gaff to Monk

Liam and a first is too steep a price for Gafford. If we're talking that much Charlotte would likely counter by offering Liam and your 27 1st for Lively.

I would not be interested in trading any of the following for Gafford:
Liam
Diabaté
2026 1st (lesser Grizzlies/Magic)
Liam
Diabaté
2026 1st (lesser Grizzlies/Magic)
It has been written...

DIdnt say Cha should include a 1st, just the 2nds in the original OP. No way is Dallas is trading Lively for that

Re: Charlotte - Dallas - Sacramento
I’d do it from SAC’s perspective, but do the Dallas fans on this board really want Malik after signing Russell and resigning Exum?
PG - Russell / Exum / Williams / Irving (rehab)
SG - Thompson / Christie / Hardy
That’s not an overly impressive backcourt with Irving hurt, I get it. However, that’s a lot of rotational guards that you’d expect to at least get some minutes. Even Martin can swing down and play some SG as well. It just feels jammed up at the moment.
I just don’t see Monk as much of a need anymore after they signed Russell. A scorer/playmaker on the wing/forward (DeRozan) makes much more sense for them with how their roster is currently constructed.

No he isn't a PF he is a SG.
While the value of scoring guards is low I'm not sure that I would do this despite all of the 2nd rounders.
Swap Marshall for Martin and I might consider it, but really the kings probably cut out Charlotte here and just take Gafford and filler for monk. Maxime looks like he can play at PF he is probably mobile enough and Gafford could back up Sabonis.
But after the moves Dallas has made I don't think they are still interested in Monk.

Re: Charlotte - Dallas - Sacramento
What if instead of martin, we took Naji, routed 2 of the 2nds to Dallas, and then also took Omax.
Mavs still get their guys, clear that 16th contract. Get a few 2nds to boot.
Kings swap monk for Naji. Eat pconn to make the deal work.

I dont think a couple of 2nds is enough for Dallas to justify trading both Gaff and Naji for Monk. Again we've seen the market for undersized guards, its not positive.

Think the value proposition is more complex than that.
I still have it as monk for gafford
Then trading Naji into diabate, 2nds, cap savings, and fixing a roster spot issue.
Its not as simple as monk fetching gafford and Naji.
Also in terms of gaffords value. I know we all hate nurkic after he left Portland, didnt perform in a toxic phoenix situation or on a charlotte stop gap spot. But sexton for nurkic feels very similar to monk for gafford.

Re: Charlotte - Dallas - Sacramento
What's Grant WIlliams' value? Negative right? Same, better, or worse than Martin?
If Martin was taken out, Klay sent to Cha and G-WIll to Sac does that do anything? Knueppel ahs mentioned Klay as someone he modeled his game after, so would be an ideal mentor

Not with his acl, he has negative value until he can prove he is able to play good defense again.
His type of injury might effectively take him from being good on that end to being bad. It's too much of a risk.

I’d rather keep Monk and put him back in the very successful sixth man role than get a pack of seconds and another Center.
