Georges Niang can help this team. The key to that is the Australians. When they put even 5 lbs of muscle on him and drop 10lbs of fat, he will be a better player. Look at what the Australians have done with Kornet.

He can be like a Grant Williams type of player. About 15-18 minutes off the bench, he will surprise some people with his play. He isn't going to win a dunk contest anytime soon, but he is a 40% 3 point shooter for his career and is a decent passer and can put the ball on the floor at times.

What did the Australians do with Kornet?!?

Added more muscle. Got him stronger. Also worked on his core strength and balance. Kornet used to be laying on the floor more than a mop. He doesn't fall as much.

To be clear: "The Australians" are what Scal and Drew call the Celtic's sports science team.

Watch him do what? Choke? Give up on his team? Get outplayed by the Bucks back up PG (George Hill) during the entire playoff series when he was with Boston?

.
Niang is one of only 10 active players with at least five seasons of shooting 40% or better on at least 200 3-point attempts.

Over his last five seasons, Niang has taken 68.6% of his shots from 3-point range, the sixth highest rate among 186 players with at least 2,000 field goal attempts over that stretch. So he should fit in well with the Celtics, who set an NBA record by taking 53.6% of their shots from beyond the arc this past season.

I gotta be honest. Dudes game is growing on me. Just a very good offensive player and floor spacer. Gas size, and if you put a small on him can bully the defender. Quick trigger.

Defensively, OK in PnR. Not good at the rim as a deterrent. Below average nba defender. But you can work around that if he game exploit guys.

He is a perfect 4/5 to take some of Tatum's minutes and scoring .

I hope some miracle happens and we get rid of this guy before the season starts. The most bone-headed move of Brad Stevens era imo.

I've been arguing a lot with people saying he's better than Hauser, but I do want to put on the record that I like him and think he fits well here. It kind of remains to be seen exactly what their financial goals are, but if they accommodate keeping him for this year and even beyond I'm very open to that.

I've been saying for years that we could use an actual backup PF to Tatum. We've gotten by because Horford is such a versatile player, but it will be tough to find a replacement for that. I feel like Niang could be a perfect piece off the bench going forward.

They need to get through this bridge year and hit whatever their financial goals are, but if they can keep both Hauser and Niang moving forward I actually love it:

White / Pritchard
Brown / Hugo
Hauser / Scheierman
Tatum / Niang

Hauser is light on the playmaking/ballhandling from what I'd like alongside Tatum/Brown/White so ideally one or both of those young wings develops into a starter and you can put Hauser back on the bench. Could also start Pritchard with White/Brown shifting down a spot and just line your rotations so the same 8 guys there play (which just doesn't look as pretty to write as 2 guys at each spot haha).

But if they had this all in place, then they can allocate all their resources to the center spot. Even if Niang came back for the same $8.2M (which is high), we'd be $33.5M below the 2nd apron next year with all of those guys.

We have all of our future picks to trade besides 2029 assuming we duck below 2nd apron as expected - and the 2026 pick should be a decent one to use either via trade or just taking a player. We have a $22.5M TPE for Porzingis. Simons can be traded via S&T either to take back a salary or create a TPE to take back a salary. And then we have the MLE - full or taxpayers depending on above.

Obviously gotta play the cards your dealt. Maybe the opportunity isn't to add a big man in that higher salary range or with that decent 2026 pick but there's another wing there. That's fine, use those financial means or draft pick for that player and make a trade with one of those guys above. Not married to them as the group around Tatum/Brown/White, but I think it is a good group to keep in tact. Hauser/Pritchard/Niang on low cost deals and Hugo/Scheierman on rookie deals is a solid and financially feasible group of perimeter guys rotating with our top 3 and there's still very feasible means to add the needed big man/big men.

I think if we move off Simons money, we may keep Niang
If we don't move off Simons, Niangs salary slot is likely taxed at 5.5X

So, if we keep him, we pay him his $8 and we pay into the tax pool $44 million
I think that's pretty unlikely, so I am not going to le myself get too attached to Georges, lol

im just not counting on he's gonna be here

Saying all the right things.

Read on Twitter

And the way he looks in this video, he does look like he's in good shape, like he slimmed down a bit compared to last season.

Our starting PF this season?
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

There will be some competition for that PF type role. Niang, Minott, Walsh.
I like what Minott could potentially be but Niang has the track record, though also some holes in his game. He does look in good shape and I love his attitude.

Minnot and Walsh are string bean wings
IMO with the current roster, Jaylen, Sam, and Georges are the possible starters at the 4. And we may not have nearly as much consistency with the lineups as we have enjoyed recently

IDK. Are they more swings than wings or more wings than swings? Minott has more size than a lot of swings. Defensively depending who is on the floor, I agree Jaylen will guard a lot of PF types, Hauser at times, and for sure Niang if he is playing.
Minott is an inch taller, 3 inches more wing span and 5 inches more standing reach than Hauser, not to mention athleticism. Based on combine Hauser has 20 pounds on him but Hauser was 23 and Minott 19.
I am guessing the weight difference is closer to 10 pounds now.
Niang definitely has more girth than Minott, but Minott is taller, has a better wingspan and reach.
Walsh in closer to a wing probably.
Edit: just checking Walsh. At combined when he was 19. 204 pounds, 7’1 wingspan, 8’11 reach.
He is just a bit smaller than Minott but not much.
Both are very big wings…can be swings imo.
Edit 2: small sample size but Minott and Walsh average more rebound and blocks per 36 than Hauser, Niang or Brown.
Minott is and impressive 7 boards and 1.8 blocks over 96 games.

Agree with everything but JB. I want him nowhere near PFs, esp this year. No reason wearing down his body like that. Playoff series, sure, but not on a normal basis throughout the regular season season.

So true. His "They wanted a Unicorn and got a Minivan" comment is just the kind of thing that will turn hearts if he leaves it all on the court this year.
